Angry Slideout Saga!

Well, after having replaced my hydraulic pump and all the hoses, my slide outs stopped working. They wouldn't go in all the way and would "creep" when on the road. So, I replaced the living room slide out cylinder, bled the lines, and now the living room slide out will go out but not in. Bedroom slide out seems to be working fine. Also, the living room slide out goes out VERY slowly, but does go out all the way. When I press the "In" button, the bedroom comes in and the living room doesn't budge. Any ideas out there?

Are your sure you installed the hoses right when you reinstalled them.

Yep. Followed the Lippert replacement instructions to the letter. Retract old cylinder. Connect extend line to new cylinder. Extend new cylinder. Connect retract line. Simple. Or one would think. When it didn't work, I removed and bled the retract line, reinstalled, and no change.

I think you meant you have a 2003 2955RL. Didn't those early years use a different hydraulic pump? Was it a Lippert? I seem to recall it wasn't.

I have a 2005 2955RL and it is a Lippert. I think that bleedings hoses and refilling reservoir and making sure all fittings are tight should fix the problem. I replaced hoses to the bedroom slide, bled the lines and topped off the reservoir and all was good!

Yup. Lippert pump. Only two or three years old. I'm beginning to suspect the seal in the bedroom slide out has gone bad as the living room one did and I'm getting bleed by so the living room cylinder isn't getting full pressure. Ideas? Opinions?

I have heard Lippert has very good customer support. I would call them Monday morning and talk to them. We had a 2005 and you could turn slides off in the front basement. Have you tried turning all slides off, and then turning on the slide you know is working, then add one slide at a time? If your theory is right, all slides should work with the bedroom slide turned off.

Unfortunately, in the 2003 model you can't isolate the slides. However, I think I'm going to try to plug the bedroom slide out cylinder lines to see if that cylinder is having 'blowby' and preventing the living room cylinder from coming up to pressure. Wish me luck!
P.S. You're right, the Lippert Customer Service folks are great!

Well folks, the slide out dilemma has been solved. I had to replace the bed room slide out cylinder. Two new cylinders and now things work just like new. Rooms move swiftly and close/open all the way. One last test to see if they stay closed all the way while on the road. I think they will.
BTW, for you folks with older Montanas, Lippert no longer makes the P/N 339031 cylinder. So if yours is acting up, look on eBay for a replacement.
Safe Travels!

It was a Lippert, but they quit making them a long time ago. I was able to get a newer Lippert that works. I don't remember the Model #.

WE had a 2905. Did you bleed the lines to make sure there was no air in the line?

since we are on the subject

I have a 05 and the living room is creeping out while the bedroom extends. Not a big deal but it never did that before and didn't know if that was a symtom of something to come.

Thanks Greg

Greg,
When the rooms, either living or bedroom, start creeping out or in rather than crisply moving (bedroom always moves first) it's an indication that the internal seals on the hydraulic cylinders are going bad. That's what happened to mine. Two new cylinders and good as new!

sq320ret,
Yup. Bled them, but it took a new living room and bedroom cylinders to fix the problem.

As the system is an equal pressure system, the bedroom might be getting harder to slide (bad wheels, dragging bottom, etc) such that the pressure needed also moves the other slides slightly. As long as they all open and close and stay in those positions I wouldn't worry about it,

Had the same issue. Chased it for awhile, thinking it was the pump.
It was the bedroom cylinder. I have replaced all three cylinders on my 2000 and it works great.
Here is the link for the bedroom & kitchen slide.

The living room is a longer cylinder.

You can also rebuild the cylinders if the portion of the rod that retracts is not rusty. I took my cylinder seals to a local supplier and they matched them with new ones.
