My chevy n montana

2017 2500 HD chevy gas 6.0 with 4:10 rear ends. 2006 keystone montana 3475RL 36' long weighing 14k. Pulls good but does 8 to 9 mpg pulling. I've met q guy who has a brand new gmc n brand new not 3 days old montana with duramax saying 6 to 8 mpg. Diesel would be far better for range over gas but much higher maintenance as well. Anyone else using 6.0 gas chevy?

There’s way to many variables that plays into mpg, Speed, terrain and weight and temperatures. One person may claim 12 mpg and another may claim 6 mpg.

Agree with DadsHemi. My 2007 F350 6.0 and my 2012 F350 6.7, both diesel, would range from a low of a little less than 10 to a high of nearly 12 towing depending on terrain and other conditions. Typically between 10 and 11 over relative flat to rolling terrain with little wind. That was towing at 70. Slow down to 65 and mpg would go up a mile per gallon or so. Seems most people with diesels report 10-11 on average.

And the weight has little effect unless towing only in the mountains. I've pulled a 14K Montana, 16K SOB, and now our 19.5K SOB and have seen little change in mileage.
I run 65 and average 10 to 11, with a tail wind I can hit 12, but with a head wind I'll be down in the 8 to 9 range.

I don’t think you will find many people here using a small gasoline engine to pull their Montana. Your truck has I think 380 pound feet of torque at 4100 RPMS while the Dmax has almost a thousand at under 2000 RPMS.

The bigger the tow, the less the MPG average.

On mine (see signature below), I get 16-17 mph when not towing and when running a steady 50 mph. Increase speed and the mpg's drop.

When towing (same truck) my former Outback travel trailer (length 35.5 feet), I averaged 10.5. Towing my Montana I'm getting 9.5. Pretty consistent, under normal average driving conditions. Why the difference? The height of the camper and the amount of wind resistance the engine has to over come.

If I speed up to 70 (interstate driving), my mpg's towing the fifth wheel will drop to 8.5. If I slow down to 50-55, it increases to 9.5.

Oddly, in the mountains, uphill and down hill average, I get around 12 or 13. I use tow mode, engine brake, and cruise control almost 100% of the time.

The difference ..... IS the speed which causes higher wind resistance on the high (tall) fifth wheel.

As one stated, fuel mileage will vary, depends on the driver, speed and terrain, etc. Out of all 12 or more trucks, the GM 2500HD's, got the best mileage over the GM 3500HD's. Mileage was always between between 8 to 11 while towing, and between 14 to 22 not towing. Mobile Suites and the Cambridge was the heaviest of all 5th wheels, we have owned 6 5th wheels, mostly SOB's. I was surprised the 2021 Montana 3762BP didn't weigh more. I will be monitoring the add on weight, (STUFF).

Normally I never get the mileage other's get.
