Extended Warranty

Just purchased a new 2008 Monty 3075. Did not buy the extended warranty the dealer was selling. I only use the trailer a few times a year. Do you think an extended warranty is necessary if you aren't a full timer?

Before we became fulltimers, I had two claims on the extended warranty. One was for my main A/C unit and the other was for the landing gear motor and gear box. You can call a service center and price the replacement of either one and determine whether my extended warranty was worth the cost. Only you can decide about value.

The warranty has nothing to do with how often you use your trailer...I think that sometimes the more you use these things the better they work. The question is do you think everything will work perfectly during the period of the extended warranty? If the answer is 'yes' then you don't need the warranty, if the answer is 'no' then you might want to consider having one, based on how much it costs versus how much the repairs might cost.

You will get many opinions on this one.We do have the extended warranty and for the same reason we have the bedsaver, the V tailgate, Insurance on our house, car, truck, Montana. We hope we will never use any of them..but we have them. TLightning's post is one to give a lot of thought to.For some reason I have little confidence that this camper..or any comparable camper..will go 7 years without a major failure. Our 3400 did not make it one year without a major failure, fortunately under warranty.the warranty is up...

I thought I was throwing money away until my water heater went out. The warranty paid for itself the first time I used it.

On our last trailer we replaced the awning, sink, one wall panel and the rubber roof, The roof alone was $5000. The policy we bought has full price return of the purchase price if we do not use it.

I had it and would have it on any new unit I purchased. It isn't the manufacturer of the rig that worries me; it is the manufacturers of the inside items: refrigerator, AC, TV, water heater, furnace, etc.

We have it on our 3400 and haven't had to use it. We didn't buy ours until our Monty was 10 months old. I didn't see any reason to start a policy when we already had a year from the dealership. We buy extended warranty on our vehicles, and they have come in handy several times.

I have Warranty Experts, as does Richfaa. Have not had to file a claim yet, but I have full confidence in them.

This is actually "The shield" warranty and one of the best in the business.. None of them are perfect.

Extended warranties have the same profit margin as a Casino - you loose and they win.

Unless you feel lucky, save your money.

It does seem as though purchasing extra insurance is a gamble. But I think that if you intend to keep your rig for a long time, the odds are more in your favor. If you intend to trade every three or four years, the odds are in the sponsor's favor. Whatcha think?

I only buy ext warranties for laptops and for 5th wheel trailers that are not rated for full time living, that my wife and I plan on fulltiming in for at least 5 yrs, which would be 4 yrs after the original warranty would have ran out... 'Nough said.
