New fuel tank installed
Hey All,
Just picked up my Dodge 3500 today and we have our new 65 fuel tank installed. Its going to be nice to have 1 stop for fuel per day on those long trips. At 10 mpg I figure 625 miles and that's a good day drive for us.
We get the TITAN 65 Gallon mid-ship replacement fuel tank with all new lift pump and tank gauge sensor so it should read off of the stock fuel gauge in the panel. Also I added the new fuel filter system that give me 4 fuel filter, one with water separator.
Only bad thing, almost sticker shock at the fuel pump. 2.69 times 61 gallons. $165.00 to fill her up when it use to be $75.00.
Now we just need to get going down the road. Hope soon.....
Buy the way almost $2000. installed. I didn't do the install myself. Not a mechanic so it was above what I can do.

We rarely do 300 miles a day as we are in no hurry to get anywhere and that is well within the range of our 40 gallon fuel tank not to mention that we stop often.

I fully understand the reasons why some go with an extra bed mount or larger frame mount fuel tanks. Grab cheap fuel when available ... total confidence of fuel reserve ... and so on. However, I'm with Rich ... we never travel much past our OEM fuel capacity in one day. I guarantee we will stop for rest and "nature calls" within that distance before needing to stop for fuel. We've traveled the SW and Midwest quite a bit and I've never had issue with finding diesel ... now traveling to Alaska might be a different tune, but it's a tune I'll never play in my truck.
So kudos on your aux fuel tank and the peace of mind it brings you. (No dissing, just an honest thought). It just wouldn't be $2000 worth of that for us.

Hi Guys,
Thank you for your comment's. When we are bumming, Not in a hurry to get somewhere quick, I have done 50 miles to 300 miles.
So The reason for this up grade on my tank was we live in North Carolina and our family lives in California. So there are 2 to 3 trips a year to the west coast and we try to get there in 4 to 5 days so the wife has more time with the kids and grand kids. My DW of 46 years does not like to take her time when we are going to see our (Her's LOL) children. We do stop a lot for walk's and PP breaks, About every 2 hours or so. I just don't like having to go into trucks stops to get fuel 2 or 3 times in a day. And like you said, its peace of mind.....

Hey Charlie,
Congrats on the upgrade. I added an aux tank to the bed of my 3500 and am VERY happy to have it. Peace of mind and the ability to take advantage of the fuel price is on the top of my list! Safe travels.

You'll love the added capacity. Those without it simply have no clue what they're missing. We've had an aux tank for 10+ years. I will never be without one if possible.
200 miles in a day is a waste of a vacation day for us. If its within 500 miles, its a day trip for us.

I don't know anybody that regrets having installed added fuel capacity. Maybe their choice of tank but not the added capacity. We try to keep travel under 300 miles per day. Fueling at our convenience takes pressures off our travels.

You definitely need a ERS fuel card, I paid 1.66 per gallon at a Pilot truck stop last time I filled up. Locally here its 1.59 at a truck stop using the ERS fuel card . Help pay for that $2000 fuel tank

Agree with PSFORD99. Look into getting yourself an EFS Card through here
https://www.tsdlogistics.com/
May seem like a scam at first but it isn't. My last fill here in Ohio was at $1.41 a gallon.
We enjoy having our spare tank. Convenient for sure.

$1.41...I fell outta my chair. Emptied my truck spare tank into my farm tank and raced to the TStop. I'm cheap like that. But with the amount of fuel I use everybit counts

Charlie congrats on the new fuel tank and especially the filtration system. Is it a Fass? My old Ford had a 38 gallon tank which was usually adequate but not always. My new Ford has the 48 gallon tank which I like even better. I might not need to use more than the top half of the tank before I stop for the day but I still have the other half if I need it. Some of the short box trucks have extremely small tanks in my opinion. I really would like to upgrade my fuel filtration system as I get nervous with the fuel pump that is on my truck as they don’t do well with any water. Enjoy your new found driving range.
Happy and safe roads to you.
Tom Marty

this is great and weird feeling
Drove the truck 260 miles yesterday and I still have over 1/2 tank left. At 260 miles with the old tank I would be looking for a fuel stop right about know.

Congrats on the tank. Since I already have a low profile crossover toolbox in this truck, it was hard to justify a Titan or S&B replacement tank for the amount of additional fuel, so I went with a gravity flow. I bought a 51G in bed that feeds into the stock 37G from Ford. I have plenty of fuel to get most anywhere in a couple of days. I haven't regretted a day yet of having extra fuel. We got stopped on the interstate for 4 hours in August 2012 at a bad wreck and I was on fumes when we got to the diesel pumps. I said never again. I like the fact that I can buy cheaper fuel away from the interstates. Again, congrats and happy camping!!!

Added an ATI 46 gallon in bed tank feeding the main tank via a solenoid valve, fuel pump and filter. Fits under my BakFlip cover. Money well spent.

Aux fuel tank
Before I installed my Aux tank I was rolling across Nova Scotia at night and found several closed stations. I made the decision to stop and sleep at the next one if it wasn’t open cause I couldn’t go any farther. They were open, so I was able to keep rolling. Then after installing my tank I was in Montana and had 3 sections of road in a row where the next station was 96 miles or more away. 27 gallons at 9 mpg would have been sketchy. My habit when I need to cover distance is to fill the main tank and put 50 in the aux tank. I can go as far as I ever want to during the day. When I get to my overnight spot I unhook and go fill up. Don’t have to worry about getting caught in a tight spot at the fuel stop.
