Disc brakes and suspension

Am planning on getting disc brakes installed on the trailer and am stuck on if I should have an independent suspension installed too. I have the mor ride 4100 suspension and it’s a smooth ride for the most part but some interstates are brutal. Yes I know the price is a lot but plan on keeping it for a while.
Anyone have buyers remorse with their I.S. Install?

Are you going to use it for fulltime RVing? or just weekend campings a few weekends every year for a few years? IF the former get the suspension if the latter save your money. We are about to go do some serious RVing and we are going to get the IS upgrade. It makes sense for our application. Your mileage may vary as they say... it depends....

We do weekend camping and take a couple week long trips every year. I also plan on keeping the camper for a while.
I’ve had a couple of close calls and I want disc brakes definitely. I’ve owned it for three years and have over 14000 miles on it. Some roads smooth, some not!

So my take on this differs a bit from some others. First off we have disc brakes and had IS installed following last years national rally. No one knows your finances and what may be pricey to one may not be to another. Bottom line for me is that I view the suspension design as the week link on the 5th wheel. If or when you suffer a failure on the interstate in the middle of the night that cannot be repaired on the spot you tend to recalibrate what the cost of that item that might have prevented your being stranded really is. For me safety, comfort and my peace of mind have a value and it is more than the winter pricing I received from Morryde (hint). Whether we keep this coach or not I am certain we won’t own another 5th wheel without discs and IS. OBTW we FT so it was even less of a decision.

We full time and added IS to our 2010 and got around 80,000 miles on them. IS was the first thing we added to our 2017. Wouldn't have a rig without it and neither would my wife.

I also had IS and Disc Brakes installed on my 2017 305RL after the National Rally last year. Living in California, we drive mountain roads fairly often. I wanted the disc brakes for that reason especially. I believe the IS provides a more stable ride. At the very least, it's much more robust than the spindly, light-weight stock suspension that came on my 305. Given the rough roads we sometimes encounter, I believe it was a good investment. We plan to keep our rig for many years and put 10k to 15k miles on it each year. I'm very happy with IS and the Disc Brakes. I'd do it again - no question.

I have a 2014 and had disc and I.S. installed in 2016 when my rv was 2 1/2 years old. If you are going to do it then don't wait to long as you want to get the most benefit from it. You will never find a complaint about the disc brakes. My truck and rv will stop quicker together than truck by it self. As for as the I.S. I had the LRE 4100 suspension and even though it rides better than some others, it is no comparison to the I.S. I had the 7,000 pound I.S. installed per Mor-Ryde and it has been trouble free. It has 4 grease joints that are easy to get to and that's it. The 4100 suspension had one u-bolt break and shift my rear axle backward. Luckily i found the problem in the driveway and corrected it before it was a problem on the road. The best advantage to the I.S. is that each wheel is independent of the other so as not to shake the whole rv if one side or wheel drops off into a chug hole or hits a rough spot on the road. I don't full time and never will but when i travel i travel long distances and want the best ride and trouble free trip as possible. If you are planning on keeping your rv for several more years then even though this improvement is expensive it will give you many years of trouble free travel and the peace of mind to go along with it.

Thanks for all the input.
I think I have some phone calls to make. I’ve read up on the mor ride Factory installation and they seem to be spot on with their work.
Been through Indiana several times just haven’t camped there yet, (It’s a bucket list thing) could be a good excuse to visit! One day we want to attend a rally too.
It is expensive but i’m not retired yet so I can afford it now. Living on the east coast and the west Va. mountains and all of I 95 have me leaning hard towards upgrading.

I too am on the east coast. I-95 through South Carolina is brutal. I think I may look at adding the IS and disc brakes to ours as well. Thanks to all for the input too. This forum is great, but it is costing me quite a bit. :-).

We had both on our 06 3400 and have both on our 13 3402. We are long timers and do a lot of miles for us they were well worth the cost. We also added the trailersaver BD-3 hitch in the truck.

To many variables I would call Mor Ryde and get a price mention that you are a member of the MOC .If you can get to the fall rally they usually have good rally prices.

disc brake installation

FYI, am almost 77 years old and I'm now about 1/2 way complete on my disc brake conversion. I have the wheels back on and am starting the hydraulic lines.Next is the wiring of the actuator. another day at my rate. I stop to daydream and drink coffee every so often.

The IS install is a two day process and they keep busy doing installs.

starman, if you are just doing weekends I wouldn't do the IS system. good luck on decision.
I went with IS because I had broken springs and axles problems over the years of RVing

One thing about having a standard suspension, any mobile repair mechanic will have the parts to affect repairs anywhere.

I have the IS & disc brakes on my 331 HC. It's too bad there aren't more places to have it installed 2 places in the whole country.
Mine is great trailer rides a lot better, though the sinks covers still pop out sometimes.

Only problem I had they botched the alignment & wore my tires out in 4000 miles.
They are standup though after some emails & phone calls they bought me a set of tires.
I didn't want to go all the way to Elkhart again & set the toe in myself.

I’m in So. Cal. towing a 3580RL and would like to get the disc brakes done ASAP. Anybody have any recommendations or advice on where to get it done?
No, not gonna do it myself...if someone who has done it wants to come over and do it for me, I’ll be happy to hand you the tools!
