Generator prep question

Hi All, We had a Onan Generator installed from the dealer when we bought our 5ver new in 2014. My camper was not prepped from the factory.
I have been searching the web for one of the heat shields that come with the factory prep.
Any suggestions where I can find one and what the "technical term" would be?

Thanks
Chris

I really am not sure but my unit has a generator in it and the main thing is that the bottom of the generator compartment is modified (part of it is removed). The other main thing is they put a galvanized sheet metal shield in the compartment that your generator fits into. There could also be some fireproof insulation on the back side of the generator.

Yes , The galvanized heat shield with the insulation is what i'm looking for. I could possibly make one but would be much easier to purchase a pre- fab and install.

I looked at Trekwood.com and found this galvanized generator box.

The “generator prep” in ours included a galvanized sheet metal box, no insulation of any kind. We don’t have a generator & don’t intend to get one, but it seemed kinda worthless to me. I’d like to say I expected more, but I’ve been RVing long enough to know better.

I am surprised that they didn't install a heat shield when you added the generator to your 5er. We had a 2013 mountaineer 310 RET that did not come with a gen set area. had one added and they built a heat shield box and put the generator in it. We had no problems..Sorry, I can't help you out much but maybe go to a heating and air place that does metal work and see if they can help you out.

Hello Tom, i am currently working on installing a gen set in my 2018 3120rl, i have installed the transfer switch and iam going to order the platform and metal cover from trekwood, However, i am confused as to where the lp line is plumbed from.., directly from the regulator, or from the point the line leaves the regulator and connects to the hard pipe... if you could see that i would appreciate the information!!

You might want to contact the folks that did the install. I would think that without the enclosure around the generator that it might be both a safety and fire hazard.
If approached properly they might consider installing the enclosure to avoid the possible lawsuit if something were to happen.
Worth a try.
