Dish service

I have a Dish Outdoor account for my fifth wheel. When I change locations I call in and they change the local stations based on the zip code I’m at.

Today, I came in, turned on the television and no local stations. I contacted Dish who informed me that they now required a physical address (not just the zip code) in order to activate local stations. I provided them with the RV park’s address, they reactivated the local stations and charged me $17.41.

Has anyone else experienced this with their Dish service?

You talked to someone who thought you had a house account. You need to tell them it’s an “outdoor” or “rv” account. No charge for an address change on those. And a zip code is good enough.

I always work my way thru the menu till I can get someone in tech support and then tell them I'm an RVer and give them the new zip code. If you have an S&B you may have just changed your home and billing address.

I have called and "chatted"(online) to change locals many times and they always ask for my address, not just zip code. I have never been charged for this service. And I always tell them I am only changing my temporary address and not my billing address. I guess it matters who you talk to. Some are great, but most seem to be new and you have to help them thru the process. That's why I have started using the chat feature even though I hate all that typing. That $17 has to be a mistake!, I HOPE.

if you have the dish app. you can change location right from your phone and you dont have to talk to anyone. takes about 10 minutes and the local stations are live.

Dick is right. They changed my “home service” address but not my billing address, to reactivate the local stations. The Dish representative stated that they had to have the physical address in addition to the zip code.

I’ll recontact them today.

Be sure to tell them it is your RV. They have never charged me any extra as my account includes locals.

I never worry about looking up the true physical address. If they ask I just say 100 highway 123, zip 12345 (what ever the nearest highway and zip is). That satisfies them.

I don't subscribe to local channels, but still must change address to get the right 'guide' time zone. I wonder if the app would work for me? Anyone have an idea?

One thing you should know, if you have a traditional Dish account ( not pay as you go) the Dish app won't work to change the locals.

I use the app. I had work good up until October. I received an email that Dish was going to send me the new Voice Remote. Then I received the email that it was shipped. It was shipped to the last place that I had stayed and had activated the satellite. Then checking the address to where it was sent, it was not even the address where I was staying. It was sent to the CVS way down the road. My billing address got changed some how. Had to call Dish to get it straighten out.

It looks like such a PIA to do this. We're new to 5th wheeling and really new to Dish in the RV. We just like to watch a little local news when we wake up mostly for weather forecast. And a little Fox News b4 retiring. If we have good cell service, the weather forecast is a no brainier with Weather Underground or WeatherBug.

I followed up with Dish: they stated that my Outdoor account didn’t have a “home service address” hence the need for the physical address. They couldn’t explain why I’ve been receiving local stations in Arkansas for the past two years. They did credit the $17.41 to my next autopay bill and they didn’t change my billing address.

I fulltime and only have the one Dish Outdoor/RV account; so, I’ll give the app a try. Appreciate all the feedback.

Just curious, have you been in Arkansas for the last 2 yrs? I would love to keep my Austin locals everywhere we go and not have to hassle with calling/chatting to get locals where I actually am camped.

I would say that if you dialed it in with your local stations, before you go and not change them on the road, it would work.

I know when I first fire up the satellite after moving to a new local, it will have the local station from the last place I was.

Mine never stays the same as last location unless I have traveled only a short distance, say under 150-200 miles. I have been using a King Tailgater. I just replaced it with another King Tailgater and have not been out on the road with the new one yet so don't know how it will react. I'll find out next week. Would love for it to stay the same.

The "spot beams" provide local channels only from stations within that "spot". Think of it as a beam of light from a flashlight shining down on the earth. The circle of light on the surface of the earth is the area in which you can get local channels from stations basically centered within that light circle, or generally about 250 miles or less from the station. Once outside that circle, then you will get local channels from a station within the next circle you enter.

We get our locals from the DFW stations. But if we travel to say the TX hill country then we get local stations from Austin/San Antonio. Or if we go to Colorado, then we get local stations from Denver.

I assume you have to call Dish to actually effect the change (it doesn't happen automagically)?

Correct. You have to call or chat or use the app and tell them you are in your RV, are in a new location, and need to change your service address (not your billing address). They will want a street address and zip. If I have the address of the RV park handy then I will give it. Otherwise I just give an address of 100 highway 123 (whatever the nearest highway is). Or 100 abc street (whatever the nearest street is). Plus the zip.
