Looking at chev Dur/All 2012 opinion

Hi I found a 2012 dually for sale locally. Actually found it on craigs list.
I don't want it to slip away and have someone here purchase it from under my feet.
DID I MENTION
I don't want someone her to purchase it if I am just generally asking questions on the truck.
With that being said here is the link from craigs list. He started at least a month ago at 48. I emailed him and talked to him. We agreed on a price once he gets the title in hand. That could take two weeks because he just made the last payment.
I also looked at a 2010 f350 King Ranch dually at fordoflondonderry and also another dealer 2010 f350 dually both for less money.
Its the options that are making the difference and the overall look of the truck that is making the difference to switch brands of trucks.
I haven't heard many bad things about the D/A combo but I really haven't see the bad just the good.
Anyway without further Honesty and Ado here is the link of I hope my next tow vehicle purchase:
https://nh.craigslist.org/cto/5730663585.html

Your thoughts and opinions may help

When I talked to him he said he towed a Montana with it but we didn't get into years because he had a customer come in so it was a short conversation.

so no one has anything good or bad to say. I'm wondering if it is not something made to happen. I thought the title said it all. I'm disappointed.

Hi

Too many modifications for me and the ones that really count aren’t listed.

Phil P

Hi uhftx

You apparently posted while I was typing.

The modifications made are for looks and a usage much different than towing a RV trailer. The only modifications I would put on a Duramax used for towing the Montana or comparable trailer would be the Airdog fuel pump system and the BD Diesel Flow-Max fuel sump / pickup modification.

Impressive looking! I have always believed that if something looks too good to be true, beware

yep Phil is right on point with this That is the ONLY mods you MIGHT need for a Duramax/Allison for Towing and even those I would not bother with now on a 2012 Don't mess with a good thing and I have had 2 of them,my next one will be a 2011 + when they bumped up the Torque and as far as a 6.4 Powerstroke I would not Bother with (problems well documented) if you can afford a 2011 6.7 Powerstroke go for it! good motor

I have this exact truck except for the duallies. It is great except for the dad-blasted DEF and regen stuff, but they all do that now.
With no mods whatsoever, I can tow my Mountaineer (around 13000-13500 lb) on interstates without ever touching the brakes or the accelerator except for the steepest hills. I have 60,000 on it, mostly towing, so I get around a lot.
It rides much better and more power, etc than my old 2006. Milage towing on complete flat and no wind is near 12 mpg. Going thru Canada and down to New Mexico, I got around 10.3 to 11.3 except for a very hilly area.
One thing to be aware of, I guess they started the DEF stuff in 2011 or so. I had the console go on last summer and said "Speed restricted to 45 mph in 175 miles" or similar. It was a DEF sensor and NO2 or NO sensor. These were notoriously bad in 2011 apparently. But my 2012 had the 2011 sensors!!! Fixed under EPA warranty. Also they said they extended the warranty on these parts to 100,000 miles.
Oh one last thing. I think anything near $48K is way too high. I think mine is low $30s when I checked last spring. Check Kelly Blue Book or Edmunds.

They started DPF in 2007 1/2 and that is why alot of folks Including me LOVE the 2007 classic LBZ last Duramax without it

Make sure you check the ride height on that rig vs your trailer. It looks a little higher than stock ride height. Also some of those extras a re adding dead weigth wrt towing at least. The Duramax trucks (and every other diesel) are nose heavy and stock are right at the limit of the front axles usually so might want to be sure that you aren't carrying too much extra with the upgrades. The price seems a little steep (not knowing what you negotiated) for 80K miles. It does look like a sharp truck though.

Looks like a good truck. But, who owned it before? Lots of "eye candy" mods leaves me to believe a younger dude owned it, which makes me wonder what it's been put through. If you're comfortable with the answer to that question, go for it. You can't beat the motor/tranny combo, IMO.

My 2012 bed was about 1-2 inches higher than the 2006. On top of that, they raised the bed rails about an inch. So to have proper clearance, my trailer is 2 inches of so nose high. I believe all trucks suffer this problem now too

Guess my only question after reading Craig's is. Why did a 2012 have to be "fully reconditioned"?

Hi

The only reason I recommend the 2 modes is the Airdog prevents the injection high pressure pump failure that is well documented at about 200,000 miles. The sump / pickup is very handy if you ever get some fuel with water or dirt in it because you have a drain in the tank to help in the cleaning process.
