5th wheel hitch

Now that I have my TV ordered. I'm looking for a hitch. Found a Superglide #2900 hitch that is used. Is this something I should consider or buy new. They want $900 for it , is this a good price? Like I said I'm new to all of this and don't want to spend money on something that's not any good. What kind of questions should I ask.

First question and answer would be "do you need a slider"? What is your truck?

That is the same hitch I have. And I found it on Craigslist about a year ago.. I paid $650.00 for it and it had been used once... I love it since I do not have to worry about hitting my cab again... And for all you naysayers, yes you can hit the cab and take out the window...

That's a good hitch if you need a slider. As stated above, I'd look for a better deal or try to negotiate.

If you do buy this hitch, don't forget, you will also need the capture plate that converts your pin box to work with the hitch. We also have the 2900, and it is much better than the manual Reese slider that we had before, just nice insurance to have.

I ordered a GMC with a short bed. We still have over 2ft of snow on the ground so I think I can get it cheaper. He said he used it 3 times he's asking 900 I was going to offer 700.

With a short bed truck you will love it for its autoslide ability...we had one in our shortbed F250...and now use it in our dually...out hitch is 7 years old...and still almost like brand new...

I have a standard manual Reese 16K slider and it's worked just fine for me. However, since buying the Monty, with the newly contoured front cap, I have rarely even needed the slide function.

As for the auto slider types: if they require the capture plate as noted above then you will never be able to couple/uncouple with your tow vehicle at any kind of angle. Now it's always best to be as straight as possible when doing this but in some campgrounds I have had to back in and drop the trailer while at an angle to the trailer. With the capture plate this is not possible, therefore limiting your ability to get into some camp sites. Just something to consider.

Best of luck finding the right hitch for you.

I am putting on a new pull rite super glide 16K and I will say I am paying a heck of a lot more to have it installed. I have a short box on my Chevy but feel that I don't have any interest in smashing my windows or cab. I think the web page says you only get 16 degrees off to hook up. Good luck and ask if the rails come with it and make sure it (rails) will work for your truck.

I was at CW yesterday trying to get a price on a pullrite hitch. They told me almost $3000 installed and this is with the purchase of a 5th wheel. Is this price out of the ballpark or not?

I have learned to stay away from RV dealers, at least around here, when looking at getting a 5th wheel hitch installed. Last year I was looking to get just the Reese frame rails installed and both RV dealers around here wanted $550 to $600 labor. I went to a hitch and truck accessories place about 6 blocks from where we live and got it done for $250. Heck of a difference!

Not completely true...
There IS a angle limitation... Hitching can only be accomplished when the tow vehicle and the trailer are aligned within 16° of each other.

Camping world price with some wiring I had to have done. Bad plug and had one installed in the truck bed. Cost $2400.00 Lot of money installed but with my short box Chevy 2500 HD it worked as advertised and so far it seems like the right choice. Other than paying for it all good#128556;

I would check with a local hitch installer in your local area. When I bought my pullrite off craigslist I received the recipt from the install that was done at camping world and I could see they had jacked the price of a lot of the parts installed... Some were a bit over list price from factory... I received good service from a local installer...

I bought my 'Superglide on Caraigs List for $400. That included all the rails and brackets. I did the install. I love the hitch. The 16 degree angle is true, although you can take the hitch apart if you are backed in at greater than 16 degrees.

Hitch installation is not that difficult. My biggest problem was getting up enough nerve to put holes in the bed of my new truck. Seriously, you can do the installation and save a lot of $. I did my superglide, using the Pullrite installation brackets and followed the instructions. Look at the tech's at CW , do you think they have super skills?

We bought a 16K Super Glide Pullrite, from Tweetys.com, and as someone else mentioned, you also need to buy a capture plate for the 5th and a rail kit for your truck frame. Tweety's tech staff were very knowledgeable and helpful. If you can find a used one online, go for it. We have a short bed on our F-350. There have been any number of occasions where it has saved our cab from getting damaged. I don't even have to think about making a tight turn, it's automatic. It's one of the best decisions we've made since getting the 5th. The other great thing is that the hitch can get disassembled in manageable parts in about 5 minutes and the truck box is free and clean for other uses. We had a local dealer that was familiar with Pullrite's install it. It does come with a template, still you need to know where to drill the holes. lol
