Yeah you are right about that 1retired06 the 6.7 is one great motor, wish I could afforded one, the 7.3 IMHO was one of the great diesels made it had a good run,we'll put you in the record books for 140k with no problems with that 6.0

Somebody told me clean oil was the key with the 6.0 and I faithfully (some say anally) changed my oil/filter every 2000 miles. Got to the point where I could do it in the dark. Added CTAN to my fuel as well. Guess I was just lucky with that engine.

Our F250 Ford fleet:

My F250 - 2002 - 7.3 diesel - 170,000 miles - pull 5th wheel stock trailer, flat bed equipment trailer, 5th wheel 3580RL Bik Sky. Replaced front left hub, alternater. turbo clamps.

#1 Daughter F250 - 2003 - 7.3 Diesel - 260,000 miles - pull 5th wheel stock trailer 75% of time. Replace Turbo tubes, alternater, rebuilt tranny.

#2 Daughter F250 - 2001 - 7.3 diesel - 175,000 miles - pull 5th wheel 34' RV. Replace left side glow plug unit.

#2 Daughter 2nd F250 - 2001 - 7.3 diesel - 98,000 miles - pull 5th wheel RV - rebuilt tranny.

Four Ford F250 trucks with the 7.3 diesel. Our diesel mech says the 7.3 is the best motor made, Keep driving the trucks we have, they are better than the new ones. All four of the trucks have goodies like chips, pressure locks, trans coolers, gauges, and other power equipment. Drove a F250 with the first diesel 6.7 for over 20 years. Had 250,000 miles on it and a guy bought it and still uses it to haul scrap metal.

Three Reasons: First, they do not break down, if they did I would not be a repeat buyer. High Milage, towing; I like having a new truck; Worked hard all my life, and the wife says I deserve a new truck any time I feel the urge.
That reminds me of something my wife said " Isn't it about time for you to buy a new truck" So I thought to myself "That is good enough for me" I went the next week and started trying out new trucks and after I drove them all several times I ordered my 2008 Ford.

All three manufacturers make a good truck. I had an issue with Ford customer service almost 30 years ago and told them I would never buy another new Ford. My choice has nothing against today's Fords. I put 100k on two different Silverados. Loved the Allison. But, the interior hasn't changed in 20 years. Ram has just revamped their 3500, with it now being class leader in towing capacity. A Ram dally with the 4.10 and Aisin (not Allison) has GCVR of around 38,000 lbs. I purchased a SRW 3500 Longhorn Mega Cab. Absolutely love it so far. But, GM is updating their interior for 2014. Whatever you choose, it should be a good truck. I like the comment that "I didn't marry a truck company". My reasons for buying a Ram 3500 were the Cummins engine, Aisin transmission, towing capacity, Mega cab, built in Gamin GPS, and the interior styling. This time I bought on emotion. One could always make a list of what is important and rank all three on how they stack up. Highest score wins. But, I suspect most of us buy on emotion. Good luck and enjoy your new truck.

I had both the Ford and now the Dodge. I liked the Fords a lot but I love this Dodge, even with 102,000 miles on the clock. What I really like is the inline six doesn't rev 3800 rpm climbing steep hills. It jumps to about 2900 for a couple of seconds and then settles down to 2100 to 2500, then as it upshifts as it gains speed it drops even further. It doesn't seem to work hard at all.

Another thing I really like is how much cooler the engine runs when pulling hard. I have seen 218 degrees, tops. And we've done some very steep hills in very hot temperatures.

The transmission has been bulletproof and the builtin exhaust brake is the best builtin brake out there, per the magazine tests.

The windows still make no noise going up and down. The truck still feels totally solid and the doors still have that solid clunk.

I use Rotella T Synthetic oil and change oil and filter at 10,000 miles. At 102,000 miles the truck still uses zero oil between changes. And it doesn't leak any fluids and never has.

I really think all the American brands are good trucks and all will give you good service. My recommendation is to drive them and go with the one you really like most. After so many years with Ford that's what I did. I drove the Ford, the GMC, and the Dodge. Several times over several months. And I kept going back to the Ram. And after six years and 102,000 miles I know I'd make that same decision again.

I may never have another new truck, but, if I do, it will be a Ram. And mine is not nearly as strong as the new ones with 850 ft/lb of torque. Mine is 650, which is plenty. But those new ones sure are pretty!
