Yeh John I agree with Ron and Jim, Better get the 10 plies off and go with some 14 plies!
14's are an available option on the 2012 3665RE,.. looks like that might be as close as Keystone gets to acknowledging under-rated tires
Add me to this list!

Good advice....get rid of the China Bombs - Put on the G614. It is only a matter of time. Pay now or Pay more later when you have to replace the tires, fix body damage not to mention the inconvenience and disruption to your travel plans. I speak from experience!

Why hasn't there been a class action suit or get the DOT after the manufacturers.

In any case ...Our 2009 3455 Monty has been in storage for the winter in Bakersfield CA. Before I take it on the road in early May I plan on putting the G614's on. What are the experiences and where are folks purchasing the tires? In Bakersfield there is an Americas Tire (Discount Tire here in Denver area) where I believe I can get them ordered. How about Camping World or ?? What size should I be purchasing? Any other help is appreciated.

There has not been a class action suit because there has not been documentation to indicate that the OEM tires are under rated do not meet DOT spec's or are unsafe.

I got 15k miles out of the Marathons before I started having problems with them, 2k miles from home of course. I replaced all 4 with anther Chinese tire. Not what I wanted to do but I did not have 3 days to wait for G614 while on the road. I got 18k miles out of them. Luck I was only about 200 miles from home when they started giving me problems. I now have G614 all the way around, including the spare. I also bought a 2nd spare, also a G614 since my tire problems always seem to come in pairs. I have also been lucky that the TPMS has detected a problem before the tires gave way and have caused any damage to the trailer. I only have about 1k miles on the G614. We do have our first trip of the season next month. 3k miles round trip.

I do feel the biggest problem is the fact that a "E" rated tire is not enough for a heavy trailer. The tires are almost always fully loaded to their max load rating. On my previous trailer, which was much lighter, the mfgr also put a cheap tire that was at its load limit on it. After blowing the 2nd tire, I replaced all 4 tires with tires with a much higher load rating. I think they were Chinese but I don't remember. But I never had another tire problem. Everybody I talk to seem to have tire problems regardless of trailer brand if the tires on the trailer are near their max load rating.

I was trying to ask a question but got kicked off I do not think its out there so I will try again. We have a Montana and when I drove across the country last July I had 2 blow outs and one getting ready to go. The replacement tires I was able to get are all good for 3,100 LBS. my camper alone weights 14,500 and when its hooked up to the truck its 3,000 less. Some people tell me I am fine some say I am over loaded. This is our first camper. I am brand new to this forum some people I ran into when we got to Fla. This year told me about it so today I thought I would give it a try. I only had about 6K miles on those tires when I left home, I got the camper in 08 the tires are now 5 years old by the number that is on them. I see people that have the 14 ply tires in many spots my tires are 80 LB. Marathon's the better tires are 110 lb tires. I see someone said on this form they could not use them I am also not sure if I can. Any idea's would be appreciated.

I had Missions on my Cougar and made the mistake of waiting too long to replace them. There was underbelly damage and the brake lines as well. Replaced all 4 with GY Marathons. They have held up well....on my Cougar. I don't think I'll take chances with the bigger, heavier Montana. I think the G rated 614's are the way to go from what I've read here. I realize they require 110psi rims. What are you guys using for rim diameter on these?

Welcome to the forum amtrakangler! We really need a little more information re your Montana. You said it is a 2008, but which model?

Given the 14,500 Gross Weight and a 3,000 lb. pin weight it sounds like you have 11,500 on the tires/axles. The four tires at 3,100 lbs each gives you a capacity of 12,400. Slightly more than what you carry. I suspect (knowing Montana) that you have 6,000 lbs. axles on that rig and wheels which have a maximum pressure of 80 PSI.

The Chinese manufactured ST tires are *JUNK* no matter what brand (Marathon, Missions, Greenball, etc.) they are. You say the replacement tires are rated for 3,100 lbs. This implies they are *NOT* ST tires as they are usually rated at 3,400 lbs.

If you have 6,000 lb. axles (which I suspect you do), your best choice is a good LT tire rated at ~ 3,100 lbs. The resident tire vendor here on the MOC has a list of "good" LT tires. I don't remember all of them but Duravis 500 and 250's are on the list. Lots of MOC folks have installed LT tires on their Montanas and eliminated tire failures.

The G614 tire is another favorite for those with 7,000 lb. axles and rims supporting 110 PSI. But it sounds like you don't need to go there.

Edited to fix typos.

thank you all for your messages. our unit is the 3456 SA I guess I must call the dealer to get the information on our axles. from what I have read on this form, without getting the tires good for 110 lbs. I am still just a bit under my weight for the tires. also, I think one tire is good for more than the others but just a few hundred pounds.we now have 2 brands of tires on here. they are all E tires I do not know what ST and LT tires are. as for rim size its dark out now so I'll have to check on that.

ST tires are "Special Trailer' tires almost exclusively manufactured in China. Their claim to fame is the higher weight rating (3,400 lbs.) for an "E" range tire. However they are limited to a maximum speed of 65 MPH in order to achieve that rating. All of them are junk!

LT tires are "Light Truck" tires rated for ~ 3,100 lbs. and manufactured world-wide (including the USA). They are have a lower weight rating due to the requirement to support the weight at a much higher speed (95 MPH???). This is the tire of choice for many Montana owners (even those with 7K axles).

What tires do you have installed today?

If you'd like a copy of an article explaining the whole tire thing and why ST tires can have no reserve capacity while LT tires must have reserve capacity email me and I'll send it to you.

Installed 4 Goodyear g114 215 75r 17.5 load range H tires, Changed out drums to hub piloted drums with 5/8 studs and new Alcoa aluminum wheels. Is it overkill yep. All worries are gone. Retail price on some of these trailers is $100,000.00 how can you cut corners on tires. Next upgrade for me is disk brakes. The two most important things on a vehicle, tires and brakes. Very expensive but worth every penny

Seems there is such a variation in tire life from one unit to the other, I think I would be checking the axle alignment on the ones with the continuous problems. Just seems there must be one more factor in the whole thing. A couple axles out of alignment would eat any tires no matter how good they were. Just my guess, but might be something to look into if you seem to be having more tire troubles than normal. Happy Trails, Steve and Susie

last night I went through my book that came with the camper, I do not see anything about the axles only about tires. even that is hard to understand as it talks about cold pressure's. I have the product to see what the tires are doing. I see them vary quite a bit. even the tires on the same side can be very different in temps as well as pressure when you get going. Many tire dealers as well as other campers say they under inflate the tires most are 5 pounds some are 10 pounds in real hot weather. where I got it they said set them at 80 like it says on the tires. as for what I have, I have 2 good year marthons, one Towmax on master track they are all ST 235/80 R16

I called Keystone today and now know the axles are good for 6,750 each. they will tell me nothing about my rims but gave me the number of the place that sells them to Keystone I called and they told me the only way to find out what my rims can take is to go under the camper and look at the inside of the rims it will be stamped into it. so when I need to wash my clothing again, I'll do that. from what they are telling me even if I get better tires I can't over load the axles, I know that of course I just don't want to get more blow outs this summer while driving.

After I read this thread, I became concerned about my tires. I have just been walking by them and checking the temperature. The tires are:

Japanese made Falken load range E 10 ply rating LT 235/35R16 with a load capacity of 3042 at 80 PSI.

I read online reviews and they got a slightly above average rating. I have never heard of Falken tires. I have put 12,000+ miles on them myself and do not know the total milesage. does anyone have firsthand knowledge of these tires?
