Gas prices again
Just noted our diesel locally went to $2.79. Two weeks ago it was $2.55. We have not hit the heating season yet. Are we going to get to $3 here in the west?

So the Denali area isn't so bad at $2.89, unless they put gasoline in their diesel pump. Then it gets expensive.

Filled up in Amarillo, TX at Love's Travel Stop--diesel at $2.13 per gallon, but that is the cheapest we found on our recent trip to Yellowstone, Zion, Grand Canyon, Mesa Verde and back.
Should add that the price here in our small town is currently $2.23
EDIT: In the interest of honest reporting I should say that I made a mistake in the price of diesel in our town. It is really $2.279
Sorry about that.

Not diesel price, but did note that the other day in Elkhart Indiana we were able to fill at $2.15 or so a gallon, crossed over to Michigan, 5 miles north of there, price was 20 cents more per gallon.
Also noted, that for the first time in at least 9 months, the price of diesel was less (by 2 cents per) than gas (87 octane)

I wish diesel were that cheap here! The price of diesel here finally dropped just below premium gas (93 octane). It was $2.53 in the Rochester, NY area (at the cheapest place I can find - most expensive is 2.77). Closer to home, it's 2.49 in Wayland, NY, and my brother-in-law said he's paying 2.69 in the Elmira area.

Oregon and Washington were $2.79 when we were there. Idaho 2.59 and today in Montana $2.45
We'll keep going east for awhile.

When I see some of the prices mentioned here, I realize how fortunate—comparatively, at least, as the only people who are truly fortunate are the oil companies—we are in my part of Georgia. Low price seems to be about $2.24 with a high of $2.39.

We're running about $2.35-$2.43 a gallon for diesel in Western Michigan (Grand Rapids area). The excuse we always got for diesel being higher in the winter was due to heating oil, but I wonder what the excuse is for this summer? As much as I hate government regulation, I'm thinking it's almost due for the oil companies... Never happen, but hey, we can wish, right?

I spoke too soon. Noted in Ashland, Oregon (CA border) yesterday diesel at $2.99. I suspect it will hit $3 by next week - or sooner.

jharvey,
I think I agree with you! If I am not mistaken President Nixon imposed a windfall profit tax on the oil companies during the oil embargo of the 70's.

The pump is not the only place the the higher oil prices are showing up...the increase is showing up in lube oil prices as well.

I did not notice diesel prices, but the regular unleaded prices at the Shell and BP stations closest to the school where I teach were up 8 cents from yesterday!

Don it seems we have similar gas price hikes. Roy tells me they have been changing more than one time a day around town. We seem to be aligning our prices with California rather than the rest of Oregon. I note on the news, however, that oil prices are going down. I do not understand the hikes especially in diesel. No telling what will happen when they start with the heating season. I feel something wrong here but no one has ever been able to prove it.
