Sea Foam as a Diesel engine additive

I was at a GMC dealership vto buy Standyne for my diesel truck. The parts guy at the dealership told me a lot of diesel truck owners are using Sea Foam instead of other additives. Any one try the Sea Foam as a diesel additive and if so what are your thoughts.

Ahh no VERY FEW guys use Seafoam in their Modern Diesels, Yes you can and It's not Gonna kill it or anything but why would ya bother when there are SOOOO many other better additives for MODERN Diesels than Sea Foam that clean ,lube AND improve the Cetane level ,I have used it it my cars and motorcycles with good results but I would not bother with my Duramax's

I think Sea Foam is for gasoline and isn't the right thing for diesel fuel. If you want to add anything make sure it is for diesel fuel. Here is a site that sells additives for diesel fuel.

Wouldn't run my generators without it and wouldn't run my truck with it, but that's just me.

Why would he advise a gasoline additive for a Diesel engine when there are so many good Diesel additives? Standyne is what I use and I'm sure ther are other good ones. What you DO NOT wont is one with any thing that will absorb water. The water looks like it's gone but it is still there. Not good for your high pressure fuel pump.

I had a ford and the fuel filter had a valve that dumps the water out of the fuel filter canister, so why would you put an additive in the tank?

I reckon some of you guys should actually read on a can of SeaFoam. It's good for gas or diesel as a fuel or oil additive. I dunno what year current mechanics start saying it's risky, but my ole Powerstroke can take it in the gas tank or oil pan without issue. Does it help ... I really can't tell, but it apparently doesn't hurt either. I do know in smaller engines, it has the same effect as Stabil when using it as a fuel stabilizer. It also keeps my genset and lawnmowers running pretty trouble free.

I'm interested in using Sea Foam, which is incorrect. I've used Standyne since 2011 when my truck was new. I was curious about Sea Foam, because a representative of the GM dealership was recommending it.

I have used Seafoam in my Cummins 6.7 with no problems. If fact I still do put some in every third tank full.

From the diesel supplement manual on my 2015 RAM 6.7:
"Commercially available fuel additives are not necessary for the proper operation of your diesel engine."

I haven't checked recently, but when I bought my D/A, Stanadyne was the only additive recommended by GM.

so a person can use this additive in our Honda Gen Set gas and oil? and it the same as Stable for the Ethanol blend Regular gas we get at the service stations.

Theoretically ... yes, but since a small generator usually has no more than a quart of oil in its crankcase and has no injectors or hyd lifters, I don't think I'd add it to the oil on a small engine. It would thin it out pretty quickly. It works equally well as Stabil as far as keeping fuel "fresh" for me using straight gas or ethanol blend. Way cheaper at Menards or Lowes than at auto parts stores.
