Indoor VS Outdoor Storage
With our SOB we have always stored indoor, with our new Monty we also stored indoor. We lost our storage Sunday. We knew it was coming but have been unable to score new indoor storage. What do you all do to take care of and protect your Monty. Thinking of buying some land and putting up a building up but the wife is not keen on that idea. Covers, waxing, gel coats or sealing? What do you do? we are out 3-5 days a week 3 weeks a months April-Oct and I am really worried about hail and winter.

Mine has never been indoors. I wash with turtle wax zip wax several times a year, clean/scrub the roof and check roof caulking once a year. Wax with Meguiars quick wax once a year and Pledge on the graphics. Polish with Nu-Finish as needed. If I'm not snow birding in it I will winterize it in late October. I will shut off the water supply to the hot water tank and drain it, and then run RV antifreeze through all the water lines till the antifreeze comes out the low point drains (about 3 gallons of antifreeze), open all holding tank valves and make sure fresh water tank is empty. I make sure that all contents inside the can be damaged by freezing temps is taken out. Lastly I make sure all the roof vents are closed and take out the battery and bring it indoors and give it a good charge for the winter. I do not cover it because I was told once that covers do not let the trailer breath. What ever happens to the trailer in the winter happens and I will deal with it in the spring. I'm pretty sure this is all I do to winterize it. Not much you can do to fight Mother Nature. I live in NE Ohio, our winters can be brutal. The winter of 2014/15 we had temps to -25 degrees and feet of snow. My (at the time) 10 year old Monty came through it unscathed. In 40 years of RVing I have had no problems.

Our rig spent the first year out, but after 12 months of sun, heat, and ants we moved it under cover. 7 years later we are up to near $200 a month to have it sheltered. but marvel that the condition is really great. It was worth it to protect our investment. We also have started leaving the AC on, set at 80. We had a bout of powdery mildew a year or so ago, and after a vigorous cleaning, the AC has stopped that from returning. Florida can be brutal for storage year round!

Our rigs have never been under cover. Watch the roof, use lots of wax, maintain seals. Ours have held up pretty well.

I have to keep mine outside at the farm as well but mostly shaded by trees...but I keep it washed and waxed, etc...other than some basement door stain pretty much looks like new....I use the waterless wash and wax from Croftgate...easy to use....have not had problems with mildew. We use it occasionally while parked on the farm site with the kids...so that probably helps...

We live in fulltime, so it's a home that moves when we want. Never built a house around any home we had...and this is a trailer. Use it, enjoy it, don't worry about mother nature and what she might do to it. Tie why you have insurance. John

I talked to the neighbors about building on our lot, the city approved it, however the two closest don't like the idea and I don't blame them. A shed would be great as I enjoy cars and would love something tall enough for a lift. My current 6 car is just not big enough. the ceiling is so short 7.6 and I am a little anal. Found a spot but it is 30 miles out one way. I may just have to plan on outdoor storage I guess and give her a little more attention on the exterior.

Always stored mine inside. With the rain in WA state it can be a pain. I have sold a trailer that looked virtually new. Had to extend and lift up the roof to get the Montana inside but until I can retire and head south I like the protection from the elements. I already had the land.

We have a raised ranched, with garage under, so lifting would be a 2600 sq ft project. Although we did just move a 2900 sq ft, 160 ton all brick house for my brother last fall. So I guess it could be an option it was a real good time but it was his money not mine. LOL
