Last year I purchased two Walter Kidde plastic disposable fire extinguishers for my camper from Sams Club/Wal-Mart. A couple of day ago I received a recall letter. If anyone has purchased a kidde fire extinguisher for their camper, boat or home last year you might want to check. The fire extinguishers in question were manufactured in 2013-2014. Here is the recall letter I received:
February 12, 2015
Subject: CPSC Recall for Walter Kidde Disposable Fire Extinguishers
Dear Sam’s Club Member:
The Wal-Mart Stores Inc. Product Safety and Compliance team has been notified that Walter Kidde in conjunction with the Consumer Product Safety Commission has initiated a Recall of their Disposable Plastic Fire Extinguishers with Model Numbers FA11O or FX34OSC. This recall is due to “a faulty valve component can cause the disposable fire extinguishers not to fully discharge when the lever is repeatedly pressed and released during a fire emergency, posing a risk of injury”.
Manufacture dates included in the recall are July 23, 2013 through October 15, 2014. A 10- digit date code is stamped on the side of the cylinder, near the bottom. Digits five through nine represent the day and year of manufacture in DDDYY format. Date codes for recalled units manufactured in 2013 are XXXX 20413 X through XXXX 36513 X and 2014 are XXXX 00114 X through XXXX 28814 X.
Our records reflect you may have purchased this product.
Consumers should immediately contact Kidde for a replacement fire extinguisher. Members may contact Kidde toll-free at (855) 283-7991 from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. ET Monday through Friday or online at
