Rich mentioned the option of telling the Garmin you are a truck. Mine has that option, too, but I find I like the Bus option better than Truck option. This may not be the same for all gps models but on my Garmin the truck option will route me on truck routes. Those are usually the roughest streets through a city and usually the ugliest scenery, also. The Bus route will keep me on main roads but not necessarily the truck routes. In any case, Rich made a good point that it's a good idea for a gps routing option that knows you are not a small car so keep you off those narrow residential streets with the low trees.

Rich, I only have two Garmins, one an eTrex Vista Cx handheld for geocaching. I recently rode with a friend with a new Garmin that shows the speed limit right on the screen while navigating. He finds it to be very accurate. I'm checking now to see if I get a map update will I get that feature. It appears on the Garmin site's pictures of the new maps for my unit that it will. If so, I'll definitely do the update.

Garmin also has two map update options and have lowered the map update prices. This is for many of their models, including mine. One is a one time update for %69.99. The other is a lifetime update for $119.99. The lifetime update is for as long as you own that unit. You can download a new map whenever a new one is available, at no charge beyond that initial price. They say map updates are available about 4 times per year.

My unit is well over two years old so I probably should update the map one of these days. When new, you can update the map for free (one time) within 60 days of first use.
