What kind of filter is that, Don? It's not K&N, is it, since it's not oiled?

I think I read somewhere that the stockers performed better for balancing the overall flow? Maybe that was for the Duramax...I've been reading so much things are getting blurred.

I'm curious though how this will perform for you.

No it's not K&N I got rid of that,
this is a Tymar filter lets in more air than the K&N and the stock type. I did make one error on the instaltion and that was putting on the filter minder on the inlet it is not the right one for that type filter according to the rep his words below.

"The filter minder you drilled a hole for will not be operational for this application. The stock filter minder is gauged for 26"H2O to 32"H2O nominal and 36"H2O maximum. Our intake system starts referencing at 17"H2O. If you would like to purchase a filter minder that will supply the correct range, I can see what one will cost."

and I dont understand one word of what he was saying either, but I have him working on the right one for this filter, and if he cant get one I'll leave it there just for looks, and to keep the hole I drilled pluged.

Also here is a pick of my fan blades see the tiny spot at the tip, it is a almost a damaged by dirt and the dusting on them also good thing I cought it befor damage.

Don you will like that new filter, you will probably notice more lower end torque,(up to 50lbs) over the stock or K&N. Have you put on the bigger pipe from turbo back? Makes a BIG difference! your new filter installation looks good.

Looks like the K&N filter does live up to it reputation of letting more air in (clean and dirty). I have used K&N on the car and the last TV long removed now.

Don to bad you can't rig up a way to draw in cooler outside air that would make for a sweet setup.SeeYa

Tom I had the large pipe installed and the flattened original removed by Banks when power plus and trans command stuff was put in, I now have hopefully everything that I need for now, I am thinking of putting a 12 volt thermostatic fan on the trans cooler and relocate it somewhere else, I haven't figured out just quite where yet.

That's the new cool air set up I keep hearing about that Banks has, or I could do like the big rigs and mount it on the side of the truck but it would look like do do though.

Don, you can't always tell by looking. The minder is supposed to measure airflow (or vacuum?) and tell you when it's sufficiently diminished to need replacing. The filter can look dirty and be fine. And it can look ok and be seriously plugged. I'd recommend the minder. Your call, of course.

Don, not sure about the 96 350 but lotta guys putting the trans cooler from the 6.0 power stroke for a replacement. its 3 times larger, and fits where the orignal one is. just a thought. My next project will be twin electric fans to replace the power robber (and noise)
