I am new to RVing and have a few questions that I am struggling to find when reading the owners manual. I have two separate thermostats in my unit, one in the kitchen and the other in the BR. The first time we used our Montana we needed both the AC and the furnace. The AC was great but the furnace let us down and would not come on when selected on the thermostat. The other problem was the ice maker did not work in the residential refrigerator. After my first trip I returned my Monty to my dealer for repairs. The unit stayed with them for three months. My second trip the ice maker worked! Yeah. The furnace has me thinking. Why would the furnace and AC both come on with the furnace mode selected on the thermostat. I had the fan on high, the AC on 80 and the furnace on 74 on both thermostats. I have heat coming though the floor vents and both units of the AC running with cool air coming through the ceiling vents. Any suggestions or thoughts?

In our rig, similar to yours, the bedroom thermostat ONLY controls the bedroom A/C unit and can only cool regardless of the other settings on the t'stat. When it is on, there is conditioned air coming out ALL of the ceiling vents. The living area t'stat controls A/C, heat pump or furnace, but only, one at a time. You can have the living area furnace blowing heat at the same time as the bedroom A/C is blowing cold.

On mine the same thing will happen when the t’stat is set to auto.
I have to have it set to either cold or heat.

Thank you for your help. I will try your solution which generates another question. You mentioned heat pump. Does that mean my LR furnace will operate on gas and electricity?

Agree with not being on auto. I have my fan on high. It will be great when they make units like your home which has one programmable thermostat that operates both cool and heat at a set temp and automatically switches from cool to heat based on temp settings.

Au Ag, on our rig, the heat pump is on the rear A/C unit. This provides heat through the roof top unit, using electrical only, no propane. It is only efficient down to about 45 F. Below that it never shuts off. If you are in a "power included" stall, it is cheaper than using your own propane for heat. We actually find the fireplace works just as well, and can be used WITH the furnace for quicker heat gain.
