OK the jury is ready to chime in on my $54.00 compressor experiment. While the compressor has worked for other needs it was not able to fill my tires to 110 PSI, with or without TST sensor installed. I broke down and purchased a VIAR P400RV and just topped off the Sailuns to 110 PSI in preparation for the 2120 mile trek to Coos Bay.

Lowe's is now carrying the Craftsman brand and is going all out. I picked up a nice little compressor there for $64. Max out at 150 psi and runs on ac/dc or battery (not included). I got it to replace a Bostitch pancake 6 gal ac only unit. Tested it out on the spare and it does fill to 110. Ac is faster than the dc but the dc made it all the way. Took about 10 minutes on dc but the ac seems about twice as fast. I will shed lbs and gain some space with this little gem.

When considering a air compressor remember how much air it takes to fill a tire that big. A 12 volt compressor may fill the tire but it may take all day with the small compressor piston. Imagine how many puffs it would take to fill that tire. At 120 PSI lots of them. If you can get to a tire store usually they can air up a low tire or fix a flat for free. carry a good spare and check the date on the tire 6 years may be too old.

I went VAIR - don't remember the P/N - it does have a 1 hour run time limit - what they call 100% duty cycle - got the truck frame mount - have the trailair king pin - nice to have the connection in the bed to top it off

I know everyone is very happy with their VIAIR air compressors and it certainly sets the standard for 12v units. I just didn't want to lay out 3 bills when quite honestly I've only had to add a couple lbs to two tires in the last year and I check them every time we head out anywhere. I don't know but maybe I have magical tires, they just don't seem to loose air.

Well I needed to fill my right outside rear tire. Things were good when we left. Tire went from 65 here in Texas to 50 on Colorado.

Went to 4 places looking for air. could not find an air pump that would fit the stem facing into the truck. looking back I could have gone to a tire place to get it filled. But in the end decided I would rather be self-sufficient.

Viair

Get a Viair air pump from Amazon, about $60.00. long enough leads to go from the battery to the tires.
