mission tires

Has anyone had tire problems with the standard 16" tires [Mission brand] that come on your fifth wheel?

JIMMIE48,

There are many many posts on Mission tires. The easiest thing would be to use the search function in the top right corner of this page. Click on it, then type in Mission Tires in the space provided.

Hope that helps.

Another source would be Woodalls RV Forum, perhaps more encompassing on the Mission Tire problem you ask about.

Several here have had problems with the Missions. Many of us have not. It may be a matter of "have not, yet." Only time will really tell. Ours have 14,000 miles on them and have done fine, so far. If I start having problems with them, then I'll swap them out for something else.

We had many problems with Goodyear Marathon tires on several trailers but never experienced any handling problems. So, I'll hold on to the Missions until they prove to me that it's a better idea to spend more money and swap them out.

We also ran our Missions about 12K miles with no problem before we figured that was enough for a OEM tire and changed them out.Our previous camper had the Goodyear Marathons on it and had no problems with them. There are a lot of things that can contribute to tire failure. However if one does not feel comfortable with the tire they have they should purchase a brand they do feel comfortable with.

JIMMIE48, If your new Montana comes with Missions, get the phone number for Tireco, which is the warranty company for the Missions, from your dealer or Keystone and file it is a safe place. You May or May NOT need it. I did and they bought me four new tires from Les Schwab. These tires seem to be somewhat similar to the Apollo Ovens, some have had good luck (me)and other have not, being prepared is not a bad thing.

By the way: Welcome to the "Best darned forum on the www".

Jimmie48 I also have not had any problems with about 7500 miles on them. I talked to my tire man and got him to look for replacements just in case. To my supprise alot of the tires today and I am talking brand names are china made so its my feeling you have to buy a very high dollar tire or a china tire. So in my case I cant see a set of 1000$ tires to use for app 10'000 miles over the life of the tires JMHO. Sorry for rambling. there are some real good tire guys here they can answer better than me. bobby

Anyone have the Tireco phone number? I'd like to have that number at hand should I run into a tire problem on the road. Thanks. I checked online but there is no phone number provided. By the way, the website, www.tireco.com , says "Exclusive distributor of NANKANG made products in North America."

I saw that the new Montanas have Goodyear Marathon tires on them. Must be the successful lowest bidder. Many folks may have had good service from that brand/model tire but I've had nothing but problems over several years. Before I'd buy a new Montana someone would have to agree to replace those tires. Bear in mind this is just my opinion and doesn't mean anyone else will have trouble with them.

We are going into our 3rd camping season with original Missions so far no problems. I must admit that we travel lite and I am a stickler for 80psi, another thing I watch is those sharp 90 degree angle manuevers when pulling. That really puts a lot of stress on those sidewalls. I make those manuevers very carefully and sometimes even pull up a few inches just to relieve the stress and allow the tires to line up again.

Thanks, David.

Good advice, Phil. I also am careful to keep them at 80 psi but we do run heavy. We're not over their ratings but we are still pretty heavy.

I had heard lots of issues with Mission tires from friends as well as websites. I was very careful to always run 80 psi. I went on a 1600 mile trip by myself 13 month (about 5000) miles after I bought the trailer and when I woke up the next morning I had a flat. Fortuneately no blowout, but the side walls had been "lumpy" for a while. I replaced all 5 tires with BFG Commercial T/As and was told the "lumps" in the sidewall were indications that the belts had slipped and the tire failed from inside. It sure is nice to travel now without worrying about a blowout, or checking pressures and temperatures at every stop.

I thought I was one of the lucky ones that did not have a problem with my Mission tires. WRONG!! Checking the RV before we pull out of the Keys , I noticed about a 14 inch section of one of the tires had worn down to the cord and a large bubble to the rear of it on the inside of the tire.
I called Tireco and started to explain my plight and concern and the lady interrupted me and said they would send me 5 new tires of the same type but from a different mfg. She also told me if I had to buy a tire before I got home, to save the tire and they would reimburse me. Does anyone know if they will pay for the breakdown, mounting, and balancing? That would be about $100.00 or more.

Just a FYI - I've received our deductible back from our insurance company after we paid it for the RV repairs after a Mission tire failed. The company went after Tireco and received compensation for their loss covered loss. Tireco had previously shipped me 5 replacement tires of a different brand - Firestars if I recall.

I still have their 4 tires in the garage with less than 3000 miles on them...
