We family tented for about 40 years with kids and grandkids including several years of backpacking (still miss it), but with time we wanted a softer life and got a 2010 Montana Mountaineer.

After many years boat camping, we bought a 2010 35 ft Komfort Trailer. Then 2012 bought the Montana!

What a fun topic Willie Bee!!!
After many years tenting, we "upgraded" to a Dutchman pop-up circa 1996, putting on over 40,000 miles traveling all over the west. Thought we were staying at the Ritz for no longer sleeping on lumpy/damp ground. Then in 2004 we purchased our Montana and thought we died and went to heaven.....wow, all that space and comfort. And as they say "the rest is history".....

Rich and 7.3 made me remember 2 campers I hadn't thought about. I had a truck camper. It was on a 72 Chevy not a Ford. I wouldn't be caught dead in a Ford then. My other brother had a Coleman pop up. We have got up a many morning turkey hunting with the water in the dish pan froze solid. We could take it on roads where the truck would hardly go 5 miles from the nearest house and that was on a foot trail over Rough Mt.

Well from 1970 to 1990, it was a Marine Corps Shelter Half. A few years after retiring, we purchased a 1993 Holiday Rambler Imperial 36' Diesel Pusher with Banks turbo. Great coach.

I started with a pickup bed cover (cap) and just kept getting bigger. Went through a series of pickup bed mounted campers, then to travel trailers, and currently have a 2955RL Montan

In 1973 we bought a used Nimrod tent trailer. Not a pop up; it was a tent that was erected in a trailer with fold out bed sides. Not sure what year it was...

Early 90's Sunlite Discovery ... hard sided with a rack and pinion crank up solid top adding the last 24" of height. For those who somehow miss the old tent camping days ... the stiff as a poker wake up condition, the rain running down the inside of the walls because your kids wouldn't keep their hands off the tent fabric, fishing your food out of a cooler that the ice has mostly melted away in, and being rather "gamey" since the shower house was closed ... boy howdy those were the days huh? Yes I was double towing then as well. Ha!

Brings back memories when two buddies and I went deer hunting with a 6'x8' short wall tent that did not quite reach the ground around the bottom. Morning temps in the teens. We had 3 cots which meant wall to wall and end to end. Had to crawl in from the end. Had a Coleman lantern hanging from the top. Woke up next morning freezing, lit the lantern, and snugged back in the bag. Shortly someone noticed the hop of the tent turning dark. Thought the tent was burning. No, it was just melting the ice off the inside of the tent.
Thought it was fun then. Would not think so today.

I got to get the kids to go thru the pictures of years ago. My Eldorado looked like than on my '72 Chevy.
I think that a lot of us are telling our age..........

OK, way back then I was not good at taking pics, but here is a pic of the '72 Chevy with a 10'6" Eldorado Camper with a Honda Trail 90 on the front bumper in Colorado 1974. The kids are now in their 40's and they hate camping? Fishing at the end of the paved road west of Creede in 1974.
Making memories as we go.
Jim

In '96 we bought a '94 Coachmen Catalina 235 5th wheel. Our first trip was to Brown County State Park in Indiana. Our second trip was to Yellowstone NP. We pulled it with a '90 Chevy 3/4 ton with a 350 motor and 3sp with a granny low tranny. When we got into the park and going up the Absaroka Mountains, I couldn't get it out of granny low gear. What a first experience !!

It was either a 1972 or 1973 17 foot Cavalcade - long since gone out of business.

A 60's something NuWa 14' Trailer with a porta-potty in a closet and a 5 gallon water tank under the sink with a hand pump faucet. No holding tanks, sink drained to a hose hook up that drained onto the ground.
