New RVIA Rules

Below is something I read about today which will help all of us I think going forward when trying to determine RV length in a consistent manner. Although not in this article RVIA also states that member manufacturers make their annual model year and major product design changes between July 1 and August 31 of each year. Now won't that be a change!!??

Used this particular forum since there didn't seem to be one that this topic fit in exactly. If it has been posted previously I apologize for being redundant.

About time...I bet a lot of people will be surprised at how inaccurate the published specs are. My 3100 is almost 2 feet longer then Montana’s specs.

I wish they included the ladder on a fifth wheel. It does affect how close you can back up to something.

I agree Carl. It seems they include the bumper when there is one, so why not the ladder?

Long overdue. If I remember correctly, the length stated in the Montana specs is from the center of the king pin to the rear bumper. So the new requirement will add a few inches to that as it states the leading edge of the pin box or extreme front of nose cap.

They don't, probably for a couple reasons -toy hauler ladders are on the inside or removable. Other type towabless supply a ladder as an option

extra cost

It more than a few inches. On mine it a good 16 inches from the pin to the nose. Also the specs show dimensions for a standard model, while the Legacy has no bumper, I’m sure the rear cap sticks out as much as the bumper, plus the ladder sticks out further than the standard model’s which is pretty much flush with the bumper.
I missed that the new regulations excluded ladders, that’s senseless since they are somewhat integral to the structure whereas spare tires are bolt on.
