Direct TV Issues

I am having issues with my DirectTV. The Winguard won't lock in on the satelite. It worked when I was in Southern California, but won't work at the new location I am at near Parker Az. Do you need to contact DirectTV when you travel state to state? I have contacted them a number of times regarding this, and they don't offer much help.

Thanks

We have never had an issue traveling between states. Only need for contacting Directv is rehoming of local channels based on zip code if you want to watch them via satellite.

The Wineguard antenna has no direct relation to DirecTV. By that I mean DTV couldn't care less that you have one. Its failure to connect to the sats is a Wineguard problem, not DTV's.

Assuming you don't have an obstruction blocking the view of the sat (unlikely in Parker, AZ) you need to call the Wineguard support staff and they can help.

As for notifying DTV when you move, the answer is "it depends". I would think you can still get your L.A. locals when in Parker. Once you get the antenna situation cleared up you will know.

Once again I assume you don't have the "Distant Network Service" (DNS) where you receive the L.A. (or N.Y.) local channel feeds. Being from L.A. you might be lucky and get the the locals everywhere. Most of us don't and need DNS or we have to call.

You can call DTV and tell them you are somewhere ( I highly suggest you say Phoenix and not Parker - The Phoenix signal covers Parker) and you would like to change your service address. Do not let them change your billing address. Do not tell them you are in a RV. Just say you are at your vacation home and would like the local channels for that area. You will need to have an address to give them. You can make one up (ex: 1234 Main St., Phoenix) or give them one you have looked up. It doesn't matter as they use it to determine which locals to provide.

DTV doesn't like you changing locals very often. If they give you a hard time, hang up and call back. The next agent may be more receptive. Also the local channel change affects all of your receivers. If you left one at home it likely won't be able to see the signal from where ever you changed to.

"Winegard" covers a broad area as it is a brand name and they provide multiple types of satellite dishes. I full timed for over 9 years using Dish Network and failed to lock-on 1 time and that was in sight of Canadian border.

are you talking about the 'traveler' winegard? which antenna system? regardless, you need to talk to winegard about the issue.

I have the roof-mounted system that tracks and locks automatically when you turn it on.

Good advise on calling wineguard. We have been using directtv all over the country with no problems.

An issue with the Travl'r is that tiny coax they use from the LNB to the Base. It is know to fail, friends got to a CG and their's would work, changed that coax and all good. I just had to replace ours as it was getting intermittent causing loss of signal until we lost all signal. Used a short section of reg RG6 and tie wrapped it so it wouldn't get damaged and life is again good.

Agree with Carl n Susan that this is a Winegard issue, assuming that you are absolutely sure your view of the satellite is not blocked. I won't try to address the locals issue since i don't even watch locals when I'm at home. I have Dish and have successfully received satellite in Newfoundland but that far north and east it is tricky because the dish is pointed so low that an A/C, a fan vent cover or a groundhog on a distant hill can block the signal. Over time, the hardware securing the LNB to the feed arm can come loose and then the LNB is not aimed properly. You might want to check that. Don't over-tighten the screws. After that I'd call Direct.

We have Winguard, took our DirecTV box from home so it's free. Just enter zip code wherever you are. No local channels but who needs them. The news is depressing.

Had trouble with dish finding sat, discovered pin in one end of coax was missing. Switched cable and all was well.
