Ram Brake Caliper Bracket Bolts
Well, we had a mishap on the way home from the CPRR. The large metric bolts that hold the front brake caliper are missing. Changed brakes about 25,000 miles ago. Top bolt fell out on the highway. Couldn't find one on a Sunday in Pine Bluff, Nebraska. Found a mechanic and he recommended putting the top bolt in the bottom hole. That way, the force was toward the disk. Worked fine for about 60 miles. Now, I'm missing both bolts. Anyone know what size those bolts are? I know they are metric. Also, need the torque. Didn't have the right socket along for the torque wrench. Safely in at the KOA and I don't believe any major damage has been done. Fortunate.

Thanks, Lynwood. The unfortunate thing is it's Sunday. My brother-in-law can be here in about fifty minutes. I'll call NAPA first thing tomorrow. I really appreciate the offer. Any idea what size they are? My micrometers and thread Gage's are at home. I'm sure they're metric. If I were to guess, M12x1.5 and 50mm length. Just a guess.

Thanks, Dick. We were fortunate to hear it at a rest area first and then right at the turn off for the Cheyenne KOA. If I get by for the cost of 1 night at a KOA and 2 bolts, I'll consider it cheap.

It looks from a thread I found that it is a grade 10.9, M14, Pitch 2.0, 55 mm length. Can anyone confirm this? Thanks in advance. My order of calling tomorrow is NAPA, Fastenal, Ram. Anyone else I should try? Probably a brake shop?

Ron, while I'm not certain of the size, I would recommend some blue thread locker on the bolts. They are subject to tremendous heat and vibration. It has happened on our police Tahoe's at work and this was the solution.

Ron my mikes and thread gages are here but I don't have a bolt. Looks like we both have half of what we need.

Well, looks like it is an M18x2.5 thread, 50mm length. My BIL is doing some driving - Livermore, Colorado to Laramie, Wyoming to Cheyenne, Wyoming to home. Tried every Ram dealership in 100 miles. Two had (1) bolt. Laramie had 14. I'm getting extras - $3 each. Can't believe that Ram is that inexpensive for a bolt that size. No parts stores, brake shops, Fastenal, etc stocked them. NAPA didn't even have a listing. Will use Blue Loctite and torque on these. Well, off to pull the wheel and get ready.
