I was wrong on slider

Haven't hit the 2 year mark yet on full timing. Put some miles on and probably stayed in 35 - 45 different campgrounds, some of which were hard to get into.

Have a 6 1/2 foot bed and a Reese slider. I have always been one of the guys that said "got the slider but never had to slide it".

Well, that almost all changed today, and I still can't believe it.

Almost level area, but narrow campground road I had to back from into short narrow site. No problem, I have done worse.

I had it cranked pretty hard but not anymore than I have had before. My new neighbor was sitting under his awning watching and hollered "watch your cab!"

I stopped my movement, got out and my Montana was within 1/4" of touching the corner of my cab. If I would have continued backing at that angle I would have damaged both the truck and Montana! I couldn't believe it.

I looked closer and figured out why this time was different at this angle. My Montana was leaning over too far. This was a sandy area and it had allowed the rig to lean too far as one side of the wheels sunk into the sand.

Needless to say I immediately thanked my new neighbor, went back to work getting the Monte backed in, which took another 15 minutes. Then I went over prior to setting up and thanked him twice more!

Guess I will be using my sliding feature after all depending on how tight some of these spots are.

That's why I've kept mine, the angle of attack can make all the difference.

Now THAT is a good neighbor! Glad to hear you were able to make the adjustment and get set up with no further ado.

I've posted before on that same exact situation. In a perfect world where everything is level, with most of the newer units you can get away without the slider, but you get into that situation where your 5er tilts one way and the TV the other and "Pop Goes the Window". I think I wouldn't have offered that new neighbor a beer, soda, or what ever for saving makeing an expensive error.
That's part of the reason we have a Long Bed.

That's why I love our Pullrite SuperGlide. Don't even have to think about it. Just slides automatically. Maybe it is a good thing to have watchful neighbors.

Glad he caught it. I 'skated' by for 5 years without using it on my truck, I can still hear the 'Pop'. It was after a year on the road, coming back to the house, it was that small tilt that got me. Sue was stopping traffic so I could back in, so I didn't have my spotter.
Lesson learned..

Yep, never ever used mine but had it just incase....if I still had that truck we definitely would have used it backing into the space in one of those giant snowbird parks in Mesa Az this past summer..... Not sure why a park that is suppose to cater to RV'ers would set up a park that way....oh yeah they want you to buy one of those park trailers that's why......

X2! The hitch was a bit pricey but well worth the peace of mind.

I going to get a slider put in my truck this next week. I am hearing of too many close call with short bed trucks. Thanks for all the information so guess I will be spending a few more dollars next week. LOL

Willy Bee,
If you go with a Pullrite, I have 2 hitch plates for cheap!
I had one put on by dealer in July, but it seemed to 'clunk' so on the way to Goshen Rally, I stopped at Pullrite headquarters. A guy in customer service came out, looked at my plate and said it was the wrong one. He drove 20 minutes each way to another warehouse to get the right one. Then helped me install it. When done, I said for wife to go in and pay, while I hook up. He said "You already paid once at the dealer, this ones on me"!!!! I drove it about 20 miles to rally and decided to get the MorRyde hitch on the trailer and had to get a 2nd hitch plate (actually third). So the proper one for a regular hitch was used for 20 miles. If you are in Mesa,AZ area I will make a REAL GOOD deal for you!
Pullrite service is excellent, by the way. I messed up my first time out and didn't lube the channels on it and scored them with big gouges. Service talked me thru what to do and I just turned them over and was good to go. Then this latest thing in Goshen area.
Very good people.

I'm very happy with my Pullrite. They are good people.

AMEN to the Super Glide!
14 full inches further from the cab at 90°
Remember, when the corner of the trailer clears the corner of the cab and you continue past 90° the side of the trailer can contact the truck cab. I have been there with the Super Glide and again AMEN for the Super Glide!

My bed cover (BakFlip) goes right over my PullRite and my truck bed is secure and dry. Works great!

I bought the Superglide because I didn't want to have to remember to pull the handle. I don't regret it. I am able to remove the entire hitch with a winch mounted from header in garage.
