Shield Tires

I purchased 4 trailer tires for my 2955rl from our local Firestone dealer. The brand Name is "SHIELD" manufacture date 47th week of 2010, made in China. Last week traveling on I-70 east bound one of the tires blew out under the slide out. Our insurance estimate for damage is over $2,400. I don't trust the tires and am going to purchase 4 new ones. I'll keep reading the posts on tires, it appears there aren't many good options.

There are a lot of options. Buy name brand and stay away from all Chinese tires.

good thing you have a 2955rl and you can run E rated tires you have other options besides made in China, There is NOT alot of options for us that need G rated tires unless you can afford EXPENSIVE GY614's ,I run Geostar G574 LT not ST tires made in Taiwan G rated 110 P.S.I and they are good tires with and good reviews and a full warranty from Les Schwab tires for WAY less than G614's made in USA AND they gave me 70.00 Ea for my made in china Marathons

You do not I repeat, No G rated tires on a 2955

Take it from a guy that has had a 2955RL for 12 years E rated tires will work great

I have used over the years Uniroyal Larado HD/H Larado's on my 2955RL have had no problem but age

I run Michelin XPS Ribs E rated on my 3075RL. And there are some other good E tires others are using for our lighter trailers.
As stated, just stay away from Chinese made tires. Don't buy Goodyear Marathons either. They are also Chinese made. Check closely. Just because a tire brand sounds American it may not be.

I wonder why that Firestone dealer didn't sell you Firestone tires? That's what I got last year and none were more than three months old.

Thanks for the comments & suggestions. FYI the SHIELD tires are E rated, I should have said so right off the bat.

Lonnie, a MOC guy, runs a tire shop and recommended these for my 2955RL
235/85/R16 Bridgestone Duravis R500HD. Been happy so far.

Yes, they are all E rated but the problem is they are Chinese E rated ST tires and not LT tires. E is good,,, Chinese is bad,,, ST is bad...

Same here. Although I think his recommendation was for the 250s, but I got the 500s and they are doing fine.
