Superchip on 7>3 Ford superduty
As some of you know, my transmission recently went out. I have used a superchip set on "towing" for 40,000 miles. The new transmission is reset to factory, I think. I also think that the engine has been reset. That reset has lowered my mileage 3 miles to the gallon. I am hesitant to reset everything to the hotter settings if it caused my transmission problems.
Any ideas or experience with superchips?

Don't believe the chip affected your transmission unless you were hitting it hard with a lot of HP. The trans on the 7.3 was a weak link and failures were not uncommon. Lots of people replaced the trans with a Jasper after market. The 7.3 engine is capable of handling the added HP from a chip.

I susoect your mileage difference is from the trans and not the chip (or lack of it).

Had a Superchips Flashpaq in my late 2006 F-250 6.0 crewcab, shortbed, 4x4, automatic. It did improve performance, but it reduced fuel economy by just a tiny bit. Kept it in "tow safe mode" but in May 2012 the engine went south after just 60K miles. Even with a "premier" extended warranty my out of pocket expenses were two grand. Got everything fixed and immediately traded it on a 2012 F-250 6.7, crewcab, shortbed, 4x4, automatic. Much better truck!
Anyone want to buy that Superchips Flashpaq programmer? PM if interested.

I had the Banks Trans command on my trans and put the bigist Haden trans cooler on I could get in front of the radeator. I had 117K on it and changed the oil every 21K never a problem even after I sold it to its new owner its still working good. I elieve I have to agree with TomS if it was weak ti could cost you milage.

You didn't state how many TOTAL miles were on the truck and transmission. I suspect that the tranny was on it's way out anyway even without the chip. If it was mine I would reprogram again.

Total mileage is 90,000. I did get the transmission hot (according to the ford guage) twice. But that was 10,000 miles before it went out. I have installed an additional cooler.
My current line of thinking is
1. re-program with the chip
2. keep my foot out of it
3. change the transmission fluid any time it over-heats
4. """"""""""""""""""""""""""""" at 30,000 mile intervals
5. change my lifestyle, giving up wild women and drinking, and start praying a lot
There is a 3 year 100000 mile warranty on the new transmission, but I would think using a chip would void that.

I'm curious about what kind of mileage was on your truck as well. I had a Superchips 1705 tuner, left it on tow-safe, and had no issue for 7 years till I tried out a Thoroughbred 6 position tuner which I've been running with no issue for the past 2 years. Your tranny rebuild undoubtedly had a new torque converter installed along with the rebuild ... the converter may not have exactly the same stall speed as your old one thus a decrease in fuel mileage. Just throwing out that possibility.

I had a trans go out on my 2000 Ford 350 7.3 diesel at about 130,000 miles and I was using a superchip also. One did not relate to the other, it's just a weak link in the 7.3 era. I replaced with a Jasper 3 yr. 100,000 mile warranty and the trans was built by Jasper for my use pulling a 16,000 5th wheel up and down the mountains. So far so good with about 15,000 miles on the new tranny.
