New Ford F250 (Lariat package plus 6.7 diesel)

We currently pull a 2007 Montana 2955RL with a 2010 F250 (6.4 diesel). As some may have seen in an earlier post we just returned to southern OK from Yellowstone NP and were not pleased with 8+ MPG. The 2955 is only 9750 lbs empty and about 12300 loaded. We are considering a new F250 with the 6.7 diesel. I spoke to many RV'ers in YSNP and did not hear a bad comment about this new engine and many claimed to get 12 MPG pulling larger units than mine. They also indicated it would greatly out pull my 6.4. I have currently got a price of $53,000 on a 2012 model hard loaded. Can anyone tell me if this is a fair price and can anyone owning one of these give me your opinion on this truck.

Howdy. I have a 2011 F250 Crewcab 4x4 FX4 Lariat with the 6.7. Mine has the 3.55 rear-end with the e-lockers. The list price on the sticker was $56,325.00. I bought mine 2 years ago (July 31st 2010) just as the 2011's came out. I am not sure what state you live in but the discounts vary by state and size of dealer that they get from Ford corporate. I live in Texas and purchased in Texas. I had two dealerships in price competition to sell me the truck with one of them being the larges volume mover of F150's and F250s in the state. I got $9,500.00 off sticker and a decent price for my trade. When I was done neither of them were happy with me but I got a heck of a deal. I was very slow and methodical and honestly, I pestered the living crap out of them. I think they gave me the discount to get me to go away. My brother bought a F350 with the 6.7 back in Georgia 2 months later and could not get that size of a discount. The best he got was $5,000.00 off the sticker.

I absolutely love this truck. It does everything I ask it to do and more. My fuel milage is great considering the size and weight. I specifically wanted 18 inch wheels instead of 20inch wheels to help with the fuel milage - not so much for the size but to just reduce the amount of weight. Anyway, driving on the interstate without towing, I can easily get between 20 and 21 MPG running 70 miles per hour. Towing my 2007 Monte 5er (I estimate at about 12K) I averaged 11.5 from Texas to Wyoming and back earlier this month running about 68 miles per hour (typically).

I did add replace the small fuel tank with a 50 gallon Titan tank which was a great decision. I also have the Firestone Airbags installed. I highly recommend the truck.

I don't have a 6.7 but it will defiantly out pull your 6.4. It has 50 more HP and 150 more pounds of torque. By all reports you will get better fuel mileage. Let my see, more power, better fuel mileage, nicer truck sounds like a winner to me. There is no suck thing as too much power or fuel mileage that is too good.

My lariat s.d ext cab without the diesel, I got the gas job, listed for about 45000, plus add about 8,ooo for the diesel and other toys,so it is in the ballpark. That new diesel is a runner. look for some end of model year deals. they should be able to get some good deals

I am shopping also. One local dealer is advertising their F350 6.7s for $12,000 off sticker, $13,000 off with FMC credit. But he doesn't have the color I want.
Another said he would do $12,000 off sticker but he also does not have the color I want.
Another via e-mail is quoting me $11,500 off sticker for an F350 6.7 and he does have the color I want. I am going to talk to them on Monday to see if I can do better.
You can figure invoice is approximately 10% less than sticker. You can check it on nada.com, edmunds.com, kbb.com, etc.
An MSRP (sticker price) of a loaded new 2012 F350 6.7 will be around $62K to $67K depending on features. That makes invoice around $56K to $61K. So the above discounts make it approximately $5K to $6K less than invoice, mainly due to rebates and dealer discounts getting ready for the 2013 models to appear.
Not sure about your area, but here the dealers use "black book" to determine the value of your trade-in. Not nada or blue book. You can check the value range of your vehicle yourself by googling auto black book.

I absolutely love my 2011 F-350 SRW. It has all the power you'll need and pretty good fuel economy to go along with it. I will get 18.5 to 19 on the hiway empty and 9.5 to 11 pulling my 2955RL. I usually tow it around 70mph on the interstate so it would probably do better if I would slow down. Love the truck though.

I have my 2011 for almost 2 years now and 35000 miles. The simplest way I can say it is that this truck is easily the best truck I have ever owned and I have owned many in my lifetime including imports. It averages 10.5 to 11 pulling my 40 foot Monty and 18 to 20 bobtailing in the mountains of North Central PA.
Sticker was 60k and they sold it to me for 52k. My truck is a Lariat with all options including Nav and moonroof.
Go for it you will not be disappointed.

OK, not a Ford person here, but I haven't heard anything bad about the new engine. I do know that they are quiet, so much so that one went by us while walking in the CG and I thought it was a gasser until I saw the Engine Logo on the side. Just a thought, have you given any thought to moving up to the F350, you never know when you might fall in love with a bigger and heavier unit. BTW our 2955 loaded to extended travel was close to 14K

We love ours. Getting about 12 mpg towing, and that includes some 65-70 speeds. Around 17-18 w/o trailer, but I'm still breaking her in. Ours is a pretty loaded Lariat - see sig line - and I got it for 48k which was msrp about 61k. I too would also consider the F350 as there is no downside to it and better payload.

My 2010 required diesel fuel with a cetane rating of 45. In Oklahoma the diesel fuel available in my area has a rating of 41. Does this new 6.7 have the same requirement? Mine came with a DVD which strongly recommended the 45 grade diesel fuel. I now have to add an additive to raise the cetane level which is a pain.

As someone else said, look at the F350 (even F450). You will be surprised to find the price out about the same when you are talking about adding diesel. The F350 has bigger engine std, so diesel doesn't cost as much. The std engine on the F450 is the diesel.

I priced F450 with XLT trim, MSRP was around $48,000, so with end of model year, you should be able to get it around $40,000.

I looked and looked in my diesel supplement and I can't find a recommended cetane level... It does mention use of cetane for cold weather operation but that's all I can find.

If you are looking to buy, here's what I did and others have done. Send out an email to several local dealers and tell them you are willing to pay invoice [or somewhere below ] and split the holdback with them. Of course you would get all current incentives as well. I had three or four dealers, basically all but one actually, that emailed me the same day accepting the offer. This is better than X-plan, and you also don't have to hassle finding someone with a PIN.

Also, be sure to request literature from Ford. You will get a "personalized check" from them in the mail then for $750 off which is combineable with all other rebates currently offered.

I would still recommend the one-ton over the 3/4 ton. Also, the F-450 has less payload than the F-350 because it weighs more.
