Honda EU2000i Companion Questions

I just ordered the Honda EU2000i Companion package and have a question: What do I need to purchase so I can run them when they arrive? Oil? If so, what kind and how much for two units? What grade of gasoline? Anything else?

I use synthetic oil in my Honda generator, it isn't really necessary though. As for gas, gas without ethanol will keep it running the best.

If I recall it was 30w oil.

Regular unleaded gas. Get a small siphon pump for $15 or so to empty the gas tank when storing the units. Either that or fill them completely with treated gas (Sta-bil). Half filled tanks of gas will spoil faster. Also drain the carb when storing. The instructions tell how.

In my experience (and the manual also recommends) the high test gasoline works best. It is a few pennies more expensive but you aren't using that much of it anyway.

The quantity of oil needed is much less than a quart of 30W oil. Gasoline is a little more than a gallon (about 1.1 gallons I think) of unleaded regular.

Home Depot carries the "Honda Branded Oil", not that it is any better than any other oil as they buy it from somewhere, but the container size is perfect for filling it and oil changes. It is a straight 30W. Also, if you are near any marinas, they typically have gas without the ethanol. More expensive, but no E10. I use it in my Tohatsu Outboard and the Honda. Also, as stated, get some Sta-Bill if it is going to sit any length of time.

I've had mine for 4 years. I use synthetic Mobil One in it (less than a quart), change the oil once a year, use Stabil in the gas tank when storing it (I pre mix it in my gas can 1st). I use premium gas. Works like a charm every time.

They make Sta-bil now with the additive in it for ethanol gas. I use it in my boat, it helps stop the ethanol from absorbing moisture.

I change the oil (~ 1/2 qt) every 100 hours. When I change the primary, I also change the companion.

How do you tell when it has 100 hours on it?

Try a little SeaFoam in the gasoline once a year to keep the carb clean. It is a lot cheaper than a tuneup.
