Weight loss management

When you are full timing, there is only so much room, so you have to make decisions. We have each lost thirty pounds. In this context, "weight management" has to do with the results of that loss.

We worked at losing the weight over the last year+ and are happy with the outcome and improved health. However, this left us with a mound of clothes that won't fit any more.

Ok, time to clean out all that won't fit. Now if you have ever lost weight, given away clothes only to gain it back, you probably stored the larger clothes "just in case". We did not feel we had that option as full timers. We hauled between 150 and 200 pounds of biggies to Goodwill. Bottom line is that our weight loss has to be one way because full timing weight management requires it.

Congratulations on the weight loss! As a physician, I unfortunately worked harder at taking care of other people than myself and ballooned to an unsightly 340 lbs. It took a patient to say to me, "tell you what doc, when you lose the weight, I will" to make me realize I had to practice what I preached. That's why ultimately we took up hiking and backpacking and since I've lost over 100 lbs. Now its a passion of ours and our Montana is a great "hotel" to get us closer to the trails. Certainly its not hurting in the GVWR weight dept as well as we pull our Montana with an F250.

doc, my main plus is the drop of my morning blood sugar from the 220 range to less than 150. It usually gets normal during the remainder of the day. That morning effect is driving me crazy. I am working on losing 15 to 20 lbs more.

Stiles, huge improvement with your AM numbers, you should be very proud! I'll bet your A1C's are stellar. Keep it up. I wish all my patients could be as successful as you have been with your sugars!

Way to go, Stiles and Diana! That is our goal for this summer, too.

We're just starting out.....hitting the campgrounds this next coming weekend for the first time!!! Maybe we should weigh the heavier things as we start putting items in the Monty?

We have found 400 to 500 lbs we don't need. I have gone over my tools and found some I haven't used in 5 years. I found RV related equipment needed for regular set up that I don't need to carry around with the LevelUp system. They aren't heavy, but I don't need 4 lawn chairs. In campgrounds everyone brings their own to a gathering. We sold books and CD's we don't read or listen to any more.

To us, full timing is about minimizing and being unencumbered rather than accumulating. This lightens the load and really makes life simpler. Lots of stuff I thought I might need, time has shown I don't.

I've said this before, but I believe it is worth mentioning it again...I learned this from an old RVer. Once a year, I totally empty the basement...EVERYTHING comes out. Be surprised what's in there you've forgot about and never, ever use...out it comes.

Good work getting your GVWR and blood sugar down. Weight Watchers has a new "man diet" that allows beer and chips. Little did I know, I've been on that program!!
