Rear recliner chairs

Every time we pack up to leave we fight with our recliners trying to tie them down. We have a 2010 3150 Montanna with three slides. I am sure there must be an easier way to tie these chairs and not have them hit the blinds. Right now we have them back to back with the footstool facing the side windows. Any suggestions please would be most appreciated. Thank you in advance.

We have a different floor plan than you, but our recliners are in the back like yours. When we travel we just stow them back to back with the end table in between. We do not tie them down and they do not move around on us.

Have never tied them down and never had a problem. Do the table and pillow thing in between them.

We replaced the recliners with Ekornes recliners. They are lighter, and easy to move. We put them back to back and put the ottomans in the seats then strap them together. It is so easy my wife can handle it alone even with her back trouble.

Thank you everyone for your input. We decided to put them back to back again and fasten them with a rachet tie down. We will see how that works.

You have all been so helpful, what a great site! Again, thank you one and all.

FYI.. we had the 2955 until recently which also needed the recliners back to back for travel. The recliners we put back to back with a strap around both. We put a beach towel between the chairs before we connected them because one recliner rubbed the back of other putting a hole in the upholstery. We also put mover slides on the bottom to make all this more easy to do. Do a search if interested there is a thread about the slides.

We put ours back to back also with the end table between and a blanket doubled and draped over the end table to keep the chairs from rubbing. Use the floor mounted straps to hold them. They pretty much stay in place.
And we put the plastic water heater drain pans under our chairs to make them easier to slide around.

Good idea! We are going to try this. Those chairs are comfy, but hard to move around.

Yesterday when packing up to return from a trip, I noticed the edges of my end table are polished to the point of no remaining finish, just exposed wood. This I attribute to the practice of having the recliners back to back with the end table between and strapped together with the factory supplied straps. That is how the factory does it. The thing is, I don't have that many road miles on it, probably less than 3000. The recliners are a tight fit as the opposing two rear slides just barely clear the arms. I think after I refinish the table, I'll use a small moving pad to protect the edges. I really can't think of another way to secure the chairs as if not strapped down, the recliner arms will wear both themselves and on the wood trim surrounding the two rear slides.

We put ours back to back with the table stored in the seat of one.
I do tie them down now since our trip to Alaska. On that trip the chairs leaped up in the air and bent and broke the large rear window shade and broke one of the chairs. At the the same time the bottom drawer to the couch broke. So I vote for to tie them down, it will be only time until that bump comes along that will cause damage.

After reading on this forum that someone said the back of their chairs had worn from then rubbing together, we started strapping them in front to front with a pillow in between. The table sits upside down in a chair with the strap wrapped around the leg.

Mariette made a cover for the backs of the chairs from vynil, we put the chairs back to back and a piece of bungee rope around them.(the vynil protects the chairs from chaffing as we found will happen). This prevents them from rocking. We also use the factory tie downs to keep them in place. The vynil covers also serve as a protector of the fabric when set up.

I have heard of people moving the couch to the back and putting the recliners where the couch had been thus eliminating the problem of tying down and moving the chairs every time you move. I have not done this yet myself but when I start using my Monty this year I will try it.

Tried to swap the recliners with the couch in my 324RLQ Mountaineer, but couch is 3" too deep and would interfere with the slides. I'd like to throw the junk furniture out and get some leather recliners and a love seat, but that's another year.

Restez and nosticks. We always switch the chairs and sofa when parked for more than a few days. I do have to return them to there original position when we travel. It does give you extra room which we love.

Thanks for the heads up on the size of the couch, I thought it would be about the same depth. Not a bad idea to swap them while parked for the added room though.

Brooksider,
I think that is a great idea. A vinyl cover for the back or top the chairs to keep them from wearing. That would eliminate stuffing the pillows between the chairs that sometimes come out while traveling.
That is on my list for improvements.

Same here...we did recently replace the original recliners with a pair of Euro chairs. Much lighter and easier to move when preparing to pack up.
