Atlantis Launch
We went over to the Kennedy Space Center today and saw the launch of the Atlantis. What a sight. The whole thing was awesome. There were large crowds who were genuinely relieved and happy that all seemingly went well with the launch. Lots of "Yeas", "Yahoos" and applause. I know that the astronauts could not see or hear us but I just know that they can feel the love and relief that was all around this area today. Now we can all pray for their successful return.

DW and I retired from NASA last year. Neither of us has been to a launch. It is on our to-do list and I'll have front row seats if some of the people I know still work there. Looking forward to that day - soon.
Edited: p.s., It will have to be soon as the shuttle as we know it and it's launch will be phased out with new technology taking its place.

On March 11, 2008, at 2:31AM, the next shuttle is scheduled to launch. We will try to make that one, too. I took a bejillion pix today and the night launch should be breathtakingly beautiful. - Jim

Living in Florida most of my life I remain truly amazed and somewhat insignifant when viewing the launches going back when Delta launches occurred and even before manned flights. NASA is truly a dedicated group!

DW and I took a cruise that left from Port Canaveral the same day the shuttle was lauched. We were about 4 hrs out when it lauched (night launch) and it was thrilling. What a sight, it was by far the highlight of our cruise!

Doris is recovering from hip replacement surgery or else we would have motored down for the launch. Hope to make the March 11th launch.

Rich,
Where do you stay?
Do you already have reservations? (I guess so!)
