Let’s install a towel rack

I would like to install a towel rack on the exterior (camper) wall, above the toilet in our 2019 HM331RL. I’m pretty sure the wall framing is aluminum, so a standard stud finder is of no use, and the wall board used is stiffer than what was In our 2007 Cougar. That makes it hard to find the wall studs by knocking on the wall. So does anyone have a suggestion as to how to locate the aluminum wall studs? I would like this to be a nice install without a lot of extra holes in the walk.

Thanks fir your input,

John

Have you considered using the stick-on type of towel bar? No drilling that way. I put 2 of them in our bathroom and they work great...a towel doesn't weigh very much.

There is a Zircon brand stud finder that will find aluminum studs and it works well. What you wont find are many studs since the walls are mostly a sandwich construction - Filon exterior, Styrofoam is the meat in the middle of the sandwich then the interior paneling.

I added a towel rack on the inside wall, next to the entry door in ours.

I have used several hollow core door and drywall anchors from Home Depot like these as anchors for the added on hand railing up the steps: https://www.homedepot.com/p/E-Z-Anco...5225/202055965. I believe they have them as short as 3/4" (your outside walls are only about 1-1/2" thick)

When we bought our old rig I got a Zircon because it was the only one that could detect metal studs. Now days there are many available that do that job. If you're going to do anything in your Monty, it's worth investing in one.

I got an over-the-door hanging towel rack. I just don't like the idea of hanging towels directly over the toilet.

I used hollow wall anchors to mount a cabinet above the toilet in our 331RL...worked perfect
