Day and night shades on a new 2019 3120RL

I have a 2019 3120RL Montana 20th Anniversary with Day and night shades
Question;
Do you travel with them up or down both up or one down or both down?
Or does it really matter?

I travel with both of mine down. It really doesn't matter which way you go. If you have valences which most do then it keeps the blinds from flopping around when down while traveling.

I used to travel with them down, but now I travel with them (especially the big ones) up. I had the one on the rear window break loose last year. I think leaving them down lets them move around and provides additional stress on the brackets. I talked to Irving about it and they sent me more brackets; said Keystone did not put enough brackets on the big ones. Originally it had three, now it has five.

Thanks I agree, I figured they would have less material to flop around if they were up so I did put them all up....We will see what happens.

yep - my rear fell off coming back. Broke the bracket that holds the emergency window closed - oh well more touch up required. RV Station in Nacogdoches TX is looking for the bracket now. Super folks up there - wished I had purchased the unit there.

Travel with them up, but they still break so it doesn’t matter eventually I will replace these with a better brand of shade, so frustratingl

Thus far I have traveled with them both up, thinking there is just less area to flap around. The comment about temperature (and sun) has me thinking though.

I always travel with them up on our 3120RL. After reading your issue we checked all the brackets and found them to be installed randomly. The large brackets are used (3 screw holes on the back wall, one screw hole on the top), but how many screws used is very random. Large back window (3 brackets): each bracket has only 1 screw installed on the back and NONE on the top!! Small side windows: all 4 screws are used. Sadly, this is not the only time we have found screws missing from installation shortcuts. I believe that large back window shade is just waiting to pull free and come crashing down.

I am going to try and request additional brackets and screws (our back window has three brackets, but only 1 screw in the back of each one - no top screws at all)! We are also going to add 2 plastic zip ties crisscrossed on each bracket holding the shades. Someone mentioned that this will prevent the shades from falling once the plastic clips on the brackets holding the shades break off (apparently this is another failure issue).

I have had them fall down while traveling. I had other spring issues and when talking with the mfg, Irvine advised me to travel with them up thus we have and it has seemed to alleviate the problem.

With the MCD roll up shades you want to travel with shades rolled UP... here’s why..

Inside the tube there is a black plastic auto stop wheel mounted on one end.. the plastic stop wheel has three small raised tips that press against inside the tube to hold shade position..

With shades full down while traveling this lets the shade flop around constantly tugging on the auto stop plastic wheel..
Sooner or later the 3 raised tips wear off due to this and the shades usually roll all the way down.

You can either order a new auto stop end or take it apart and using a solder iron lightly touch 3 different locations on the edge of the wheel. This will melt the plastic slightly creating a “raised spot” on the wheel so that now the auto stop will hold again..

See item circled in yellow in pic

Thanks ChuckS. good point about the auto stop mechanism. Also, all other posters, I will check the installation brackets and screws and fix if necessary.

We always travel with them up. The biggest reason is if it catches fire inside someone passing us might point to the fiver. When we had a blowout and didn't feel it, someone passing us did just that.

My rear shade is hanging down on one side and i looked and all three screws are coming out on the left bracket plus on the same shade the bottom grab rail came off the shade.
Not sure why the one hole isn't got a screw where the valance's is to help support the valance and bracket or why isn't the valance held up by the shade bracket, it would make it easy to remove the valance to work on the shade adjustments.
I also think the Valance on all the windows need to be longer so that the shade doesn't hangup at the bottom when trying to raise the shades.
