Bulb count / cost to convert to LED

Hey all. Sitting here watching it rain after a long walk on the beach in Grayland.

I started counting bulbs to see what the cost would be to go to LED.

We have a 2012 3625RE. I counted 48 of the 921 bulbs. 2 of the 1076. 6 of the 1156 and 2 of the G4 halogen.

All told with the MOC discount we would be looking at $585.45. That is if Michael and Kat are able to take our order.

Does this sound right to those of you who have converted?

That is a lot of bulbs...

Appreciate your insight as always.

Ken

We would of loved to support Michael and Kat and they sell quality bulbs but I went to Ebay and bought ALOT of 921's and 1156's and am now fully converted to LED for less than M&K( about 50 bucks for a pack of 6 921's) and I have had them a year now and they still work great and Bright just another option for ya, just read the feedback of the company selling them but be realistic you are NOT going to get quality LED's for 3 bucks a piece and there is some of those crap LED's on Ebay, And to lessen the financial blow I just bought a couple a packs at a time and replaced the most used one's first

Thanks Jimmy. Appreciate the input. Sure hope the rain lets up a bit for clamming towards the end of the week.

You got that right!! we were going to go to the last dig at Ocean City but it was just too nasty and that is saying a lot because we are pretty hard core clammers and have been on some Brutal Digs, By the way Your picture looks like you are at the WA coast, we are KM resort members and stay at Ocean Mist in Ocean City ALOT

We used M&K but did it in three steps. Changed most used first etc.

You have a great setup as well..but thanks. We like it.

There are more digs at twin harbors because the tribes get more access up by Copalis.

Will have to look up Ocean Mist.

I've done the first step and will be doing a second in a month or so buying them from M & K. The reason I'm changing many out is to lengthen battery life while boondocking (normally overnighting at WallyWorld or elsewhere) so I'm not doing all of them. Forget the ones you only use occasionally and don't leave on for any length of time (basement lights are an example). I had already pulled one bulb out of many fixtures as there was too much light/heat (the four bedroom ceiling lights), so I only needed one high intensity LED for each. I'm pretty certain I'll be around $300 when done, but won't have to worry about keeping lights off when not hooked to shore power any more. By the by, I believe shipping is flat rate so it's the same if you buy part or all at once. (Maybe I should have paid attention!) M & K's website is here: http://filamentfree.com/shop/page/1?...qJ&shop_param=

Walt, so in your experience should I only plan on one led per pancake fixture or go with two lower intensity LEDs?

Has anyone else done either of those options?

They do to me. There are a lot of bulbs in these things. Even the basement has a couple of fixtures. That's why I made a usage chart and did it in three steps.

In all of my RV's there have been lights seldom used or never used. If this pertains to your usage as well ... keep the thought in mind. No use in replacing lights that you'll seldom or never use. I only went LED with what I continually use. That's how I look at it.

Thanks for the input. I will look at the usage which I did not consider at the start.

We mostly use the bedroom, bathroom, kitchen and the chandelier fixtures on the ceiling.

Appreciate the advice.

Eventually we did change all our ours over, but the ones in the seldom to never used lights are where we are carrying our "spare" bulbs.

As to one or two bulbs in dual fixtures: Our old TT had dual fixtures everywhere and I took out one bulb in almost every one. They were too bright and mad a lot of heat. I'd suggest you try this out in your bedroom ceiling area first and see if that's still enough. (We don't have a makeup area so my wife uses the bath.) The hallway and bath overheads are only used to just get around, so I removed one there too. The bath mirror has three lamps and is what's used a lot, but I put low intensity LEDs there and that works fine. May have to put two in the ceiling ones, but we'll see.

I'm trying one high intensity in each of the kitchen/dining ceiling fixtures and the one under the cabinet. Haven't quite decided about the living area ceiling ones yet, and will probably do the misc. wall fixtures first. We only use the ceiling ones when doing something on a fold up table (games, crafts, puzzles, etc.) and good lighting is needed. Most of the time we use the side ones (reading, eating, watching tv, etc.). It's all about how much you use them and what you need them for. Like I said, my goal is to be able to run off battery for more than one night without having to live in the dark and we don't boondock that much without at least a generator.

I replaced every bulb I could find first round and missed a couple, yes lots o lights. Second round I filled in the missing ones and bought one extra of each as a spare. I'm in close to $600 give or take. I opted to replace them all (except the 110s) to just "get er done" including the outdoor yellow light above the door. Nice knowing it won't suck much juice and can be left on all night. In addition to the electric savings I really like that I don't have to worry about melting fixtures. Those standard bulbs get so hot. I also bought through M&K. Couldn't be happier.
