With the old toy hauler we would use 5 gal. water containers. One on each end connected with a bike strap to hold down and just have the straps snug. That work for the manual awning. Plus you always need water.

The new Dometic awnings are better than the old type awnings in the wind. I have seen mine stand almost straight up from wind gusts and return to normal. BUT, THEY ARE NOT INVULNERABLE! They will drop an end, automatically, to unload water. It's all in the owners manual. There are wind sensor retractable options available, but not offered on Montana. The new awnings are so easy to retract and extend that this is almost a moot point. IMHO
