Door Keys

This may be old news to some folks,

The wind caught my door and broke the key. I called Fastec Industrial Corp (FIC) in Elkhart (574) 262-2505, gave them the number off the key and they are on the way today. I got a couple of extras too ($1.50 a key).

This would be the number to call for lock problems too. Friendly folks.

Brad,
Too bad I didn't have that info three months ago! Steve lost the xtra set of our keys, and he had an extra one made; the guy charged him $15! We about fell over!

Thanks Brad, that info may come in handy someday.

I've thought for awhile now, that you are a pretty talented guy, and as time goes on, and I read more and more of your posts, I'm beginning to see a pattern emerge that explains how you got so talented. Your always breaking something .

It has been a strange phenomena ever since I joined the MOC Lonnie;
  • a lot of stuff was already broke and I just didn't know it was broke until I read about it from someone else in the Forum, and
  • the rest of it is about to break and will as soon as I read about it from someone else on the Forum
I wish I could say this is all in jest, but it's not!

I'm sorry Brad, look at the bright side though, eventually everything will be fixed and you will know HOW to fix everything, OR you will go nuts and it won't matter anymore, lol.

Thanks for posting the website Glenn -

BTW - If searching for the door lock mechanism, its called a "slam lock".

Also, should you lose the number Brad posted, take out the latch screws on the inside of the door. Inside that mechanism is an 800 number where you can order keys. I managed to lose all keys to our 3295RK on delivery day, on the way home from the dealer. I had to crawl into the basement and up the laundry chute, then removed the latch mechanism to get to the phone number.

Brad, just curious. How, exactly, did wind catching the door break the key? Did it slam that door open that hard?

Steve,

I made the mistake of leaving the key string in the lock to open the door for just second. The wind caught it and slammed it against the siding bending the key at a 90 degree. It broke when I tried to straighten it. Left a black mark in the siding, and also broke the nylon door holder that I will have to find as well.
