Crown Moulding

We have a 2018 Montana High Country 305RL The crown moulding and the piece that is attached on the slide out over the kitchen has fallen off on several occasions repaired once by the dealership and then by a carpenter Has anyone had a similar problem and how did you solve the problem I could drive screws into the moulding and the pressboard behind but would not look the greatest

I used dark screws - you don't notice them.

Pretty common report. I applied silicone caulk behind the crown molding and pushed the nails that worked out back in place.

For the moldings, I've just used 1/4" wide staples that are about as long as what was originally used, and for the fascia around the slides, I just use 1 1/2" brads in my nail gun. I use a combination stapler/nail gun that I carry on the rig along with all my other tools. We've had a number of things come loose over the years, and I just reattach things as they come loose.

Silicone adhesive, brad nails hold until the silicone dries.

Not that this is likely, but you might want to seriously think twice about using adhesive of any kind on the fascia trim around the slides. If these are more permanently attached and there is a need to remove a slide, there can be some serious damage done to these pieces in order to pull a slide. I realize that these parts falling off is not a good thing, but when putting them back on, maybe adding more nails would be a better option.

Use screws to reattach the wood trim. Try to find a stud to anchor into (use a stud finder or better still a Walabot).
Search YouTube for. wood screw caps.
https://m.youtube.com/results?search...ood+screw+caps
This will hide the screw heads. You will need to stain and finish the heads when you are done.

We had a similar problem on our 2014 Montana High Country 305RL. Hired a carpenter to reattach the molding with long screws (recessed and filled to match the molding color and adhesive on the backside I also used a brad gun with longer brads that the original installation to reattach the trim molding around the slides that readily popped off when we brought the slides in/out.

Had exactly the same problem. Dealer repair 1st time. Second time the other side came loose and fell onto the floor. I used long screws and countersunk them. I did all 3 slides including the bedroom. No glue used. I used dark screws and they are not noticeable. Took me about an hour and they are now as solid as Gibraltar.

We used trim screws to reattach/firm up ours. They are black and have a very small head that is barely noticeable. They use a square bit (several have a bit in the box of screws). We had a couple places where the staples they use to attach them at the factory weren't driven into anything behind the fascia, they we just sticking out into the air on the backside! We were on a 3 month trip when the first one fell and we didn't have the time or tools to glue and clamp or anything.

Problem is the brad nails have nothing to bite into. You only have a thin piece of paneling and then styrofoam.

I had the same issue with crown moulding. I got these screws ill put a link in this post. CW tried to fix it but it just came off again. Once I fixed it I haven't had a problem since. My Local CW saw the repair and asked how its working, since then the local CW uses these to fix the moulding. Also picked up some colored putty and did a color match, looks great and hasn't budged 10,000 miles later.

Did the same exact thing. I used a course threaded wood screw on the first one, then my work partner found those screws you have. She had used them on a desk, then on her Montana, so I did the same.

Thx Tony, we have the same issue going on and was looking for a fix when we get this rig back home. Did you just screw Into the paneling or were you able to find studs to screw to?

I suppose you could try to find some studs (they are aluminum and not evenly spaced and vary by model) but if you put them into the paneling at opposing angles you should be good to go.

I screwed right into the paneling. Carefully, the screws will start to grab and you will feel it as they go in. go until they are good and tight and stop, dont over tighten. fill with colored putty and never worry about them again.... 2 cross country trips sense no issues.... haven't even thought about it till this thread came back up LOL. Good luck
