What kind of Mirrors?

I'll be pulling with my 2002 Chev Silverado. It still has the standard mirrors. I'm assuming those need to be replaced with something wider? What's the best way to go?

You do not have to replace them but you should add extensions that make you wider than 8' so you can see down the sides of your trailer and help backing.
Good luck and tow safe.

I put the extensions on for around $30. Or you can change them out for a little more than that, like $300 and up! My employee price at the dealership for factory mirrors was about $150 each! There are some aftermarket models out you might get a better price on, but I figured for $30 I could but a lot of extension types for that. By the way, my addons are over 8 years old!

DMS, See my truck below. I called a dealer and they wanted, Ready for this? $292.00 EACH for the electric tow mirrors that extend. That did not include installation, I do not know what is involved in installing a new set. I figure around $800.00 from the dealer. NOT. I went with the slip on extensions that Camping World sells. They are easy to put on and off and didn't cost me an arm and a leg. Haven't seen any after market units that are electric and replace the OEM ones. I'm sure there are some and maybe someone will be by to tell us some more info.

JC Whitney has some aftermarket mirrors but they too are in the $300 apiece range. Follow the leaders above and use the slip ons. I used them on a previous TV and my brother is still using them (same ones) on his TV.

I used the slip ons on my 2033
Chevy 1/2 ton when I was towing our little 23 foot TT. They worked great!
Of course when I got the 2500 hd with the tow package it came with the electric extending mirrors which work great, but I wish they were vertical like the new ones.

I have towed with the regular, but I also have the towing mirrors. They are quick to change out takes 5 mins. 3 nuts to remove and a quick connect plug for the electric. I usually put the power mirrors back on for the winter.

I bought a set of those clip on mirrors, but I didn't like them. I have really had no problems with the regular mirrors. My 03 Silverado had the extending tow mirrors, and I found that they had a bad blind spot. Haven't tried the new GM mirrors; think they might be good.

I used the slide on Cipa's on my '02 2500HD that I just traded. I still have them, if you would be interested, PM me.

I installed a set of these Cipa mirrors and they work great! http://store.summitracing.com/partde...%2D70200&N=700 The mirror adjustment is electric but you have to manually extend them out. I didn't have OEM turn signals or heated mirrors so I didn't have to worry about that. You can barely see them in my sig pic.

On our 03 Silverado we used the Cipa Mirrors available at Camping World. They worked great with very little vibration. Mirror vibration was the thing that turned me off with the mirrors that had the rubber straps.

Thanks for all the help. I was looking at the Camping World site on your post Glenn but it says they won't fit the full chrome mirrors which I have. At least I know my options and I'll do a little more research. Everybody have a great week.

One of our member's sells after market clip on mirrors that work great. I've had friends add them to their GMC and they leave them on all the time. You can contact:

I tow with an 01 Dodge 2500. The stock mirrors that came on the truck shook really bad when I put the strap on or slide on mirros on it. I bit the bullet about 5 years ago & went with the CIPA mirrors. Like someone else said, you manually pull them out, but the mirror itself is power. I personally like these. You can move the mirror driving down the road & even see the tires on the front axle of the trailer, move them when parking the rv or whatever. In my experience, with these, I have very little vibration. The only downfault to these are the price! But, I would buy them again for the next Tow vehicle.

On my last tv (2000f150) I used the Cipa clamp on mirrors. Used them for three years with no problems.

Have the manual pullout power direction mirrors on my 2000 7.3 super cab, super duty, 250 ford.
Question, Mirror is not working in all directions when directional buttons are pushed, seems to be in both mirrors same direction which leaves me to believe that it is in the switch. Has anyone replaced these switches and if so , how do you remove them to trouble shoot or replace, do you have to remove the door panel or can they be popped out?
