South Padre Island, TX

DW had a guest at the hotel that had just returned from SPI on a fishing trip. They said all the hotels and condos are really struggling there, due to the turmoil along the border. Room war of sorts from what they described. Were going to drive on up to Rockport after fishing, but got a room for $22 for the night, so they decided to stay. Wow!

I haven't noticed anyone on here posting from SPI...curious if this is effecting the RV parks there. Probably not.

When I was there, I was a regular on the local business-person's Forum, (Sparky) it has been a concern for the business' there for some time. S.Padre is just so far from everything. They are always looking for improvement.
I suggested having a Gourmet cooking week, Island travels, beach cook-outs Horseback riding Helicopter tours all tied to a good hotel's cooking class.
You might 'facebook' the Islands KOA, see what they say, nice peeps.

Wow! Check this out; http://www.thepaperofsouthtexas.com/page.php Cameron County has apparently signed off on a contract to let the Isla Blanca RV Park be developed by private entities.

The Island needs to invest in some beach grooming equipment to clean up their terrible trashy beach frontage in areas other than in front of the hotels and condos. I agree with ozz that other forms of things to do would help a little. I believe their was a plan to bring in another highway to the island and put in a casino which could help but I think it all fell on deaf ears.
