Covid/Travel/Vaccines

We're in FL from TX. Actually stuck in FL due to family problems. We are scheduled to leave in April but the vaccines are coming out now and we really wanted to avail ourselves of that. Read the articles about state guidelines for FL and they always said "residents". TX guidelines said "residents". Figured we were going to have to buy plane tickets back and forth to TX to get the shots. Talked to our Dr. nurse today and she didn't know for sure....so;

decided to call the county health office here in FL as a long shot. Finally reached them and found the nicest lady. She said there was no "resident" restriction. I told her our age and she said she would put us on the list right now. I asked would it be weeks, months or what. She said a nurse would call us within the next week to schedule!!

I know many are traveling, or want to travel, at this time of year. If like us, getting the vaccination is important. I was relieved, shocked even, that I was welcomed like a resident. Made our day and sure was a stress reliever. Just wanted to share that with anyone that might have those concerns.

Good luck to you, and I hope it goes smoothly.

Here in Texas it is pretty hectic. Even though those over 65 have been approved for getting the vaccine, it is hard to actually get it. The places giving it have limited supplies and have been overwhelmed. On-line and phone in reservations have been swamped. People have lined up for hours with some being turned away after they ran out of the vaccine. It will smooth out, but may take a while.

Here in western Va I guess some are getting the vaccine or that is what I see on television. First responders, medical people but for the general population I don’t see people getting the shot. It seams there isn’t a coordinated plan. This isn’t going the was anyone planned if there was even a plan.

I did the online calculator to determine my place in line for the vaccine.
I'm over 65 with no underlying health conditions.
118.5 million ahead of me in the country
4.8 million ahead of me in my state
229,700 ahead of me in my county
Guess I'll have to hurry up and wait.
