Wrecked our 3811. Stuck in Dallas.

On our way to S Padre Island and had a parking lot accident that ripped the back end of our 3811 open. It is undriveable. We found a repair lot about 3 miles from the accident scene and dropped it off. taking enough gear with us for a night in a hotel. We're trying to continue our vacation in just the truck and are looking for a hotel or cabin in S Padre that you can recommend. Someplace with a kitchenette, etc. The KOA is full.

Any advice is helpful.
Please and thanks.

Don't know who you took your trailer to or what they promised. But I can highly recommend https://www.coachspecialists.com/ . I had one of those "parking lot accidents" and nearly ripped my rear cap off. And they did a great job handling the insurance, getting go ahead to start, and getting it repaired and back to me in just under 3 weeks, and that included the July 4th holiday in the middle of that time. They did excellent fiberglass repair work and did not have to wait for a replacement rear cap. Before and after pics below.

Can't help with Padre.

Wow - that is some magic that was performed on your rig ! Nice that you have such repair facilities in your state. Let's hope your insurance claim folks get their approval back quickly so you can get back to having fun.

vrbo.com is very good also. We have used them on family trips to Disneyworld.

If you run out of options in SPI, check Brownsville Tx. 30 minutes away. Look up Riverbend RV Park. They usually have some onsite rentals by owner (to stay there).

We are a ways North of South Padre, but Drifters Resort at Rockport, Tx, has cabins available. It's on Biz 35 between Rockport and Aransas Pass. 361-727-9105.

Just had the same thing happen to my 305RL. Repairs cost $10,000. It took about a month to get a replacement rear cap from Keystone - Christmas and New Years may have slowed that down. Labor estimate was 50 hours. Scheduled to get unit back next week (2/12). Damage was discovered and reported 12/11.

Good luck.

Yep, same damage on ours, only on the entire left side. Just got the insurance estimate today, almost $15,000!

I hit a Parked car. Turned a corner too wide, the tail end hit the car. Pulled the rear cap off. Very messy.

Hope everything works out OK for you. Good luck and, since you have a bushel full of lemons, it's time to start making lemon-aid.

We were on our way from Indiana to Georgia the second week in March this year. We just crossed the Kentucky-Tennessee border when the truck blew.

Long story, and 3 different tows later between the truck and trailer, we were at a motel with the trailer and the truck was at the GM dealership in Corbin, KY. We were without transportation from Friday evening till Monday evening, and everything was closed. But, we made lemon-aid. Our plans for Georgia were completely changed now, plus we had a sick dog.

Imagine our shock when we were able to finally get a rental car, was able to make it to the Chevy Dealership in Corbin, walked in and saw this:

Well, a few days later and a few thousand dollars later, we headed back home. We had to get the dog to the vet.

Lesson learned... look for the good in every situation and turn the negatives into positives. We did, and in spite of everything that went wrong, we had a really good time together.

It was a freak of nature and a shock to everyone who knows. With less than 60,000 miles, the turbo blew! Immediate shutdown. Dead on the interstate.

Thanks! Yes that is unusual. These turbos normally are very reliable. Anything man makes will break.
Without the turbo you aren’t going anywhere. I popped a turbo hose and couldn’t see the camper behind me for the smoke.

Had a similar parking lot mishap, the guy next to me in storage clipped the rear cap and tore it away from the frame (and then left without a note). Keystone/Montana delivered a replacement rear cap in about 2 weeks and Paramount RV in Reno did a terrific job fixing everything. Total price $10,376.70 ($3,500 for the new rear cap).

My neighbor who hit me, moved out before I found the damage on a routine trailer check. Not sure if my insurance (GIECO) caught up with him. I expected my rate to go up, but it actually went down.

DutchmanSport,
Do you have an aftermarket air filter? I almost lost a turbo once because the air filter was letting to much slip by. Dealer caught it while doing something else that required removal of the turbo. I’ve only used factory filters since for over 550k miles on two Ram 3500s with no problems. Both were also work trucks and regularly pulled 26k pounds gross.
