Tires "flex" when backing into camp site
I've noticed that when my husband is backing our 3400RL into a campsite that one of the tires on the RV seems to really flex to the point where it doesn't appear in line with the other tire. Is this normal? We have the Mission tires with about 1500 miles.. There does not appear to be anything wrong with the axels, wheels or tires.

I bet you notice it when he is turning a tight corner. If so yes that is normal.

I think what you are seeing is normal. There is tremendous sideways forces on the tires/wheels when making a sharp turn. I know I have seen this on mine also when backing into a tight spot.

I had to back my 3400RL into my 45 foot driveway. The only saving grace was that once in, I could pull into my neighbor's driveway across the street. I would do that to let the wheels come to a natural state and be even. The first time I backed it in I got out and the wheels were all askew. I would think that in a camp ground you would be able to pull forward, straighten out, and the back in straight, taking the stress, and there is a lot of stress on the tires.

Next time you're driving forward and make a really hard turn, look in the side view mirror if want to get a good look. Scarey but kinda cool looking. I think the rubber in the suspension twists some too to add to the effect.

Just a note:
The flexing of the tires on tight turns, also weakens the sidewall. Not good for Missions! Or any brand.
If possible, make wider turns....not always available.

The flex is normal, just be sure if possible to pull forward a little and then back in straight to take the stress off the sidewalls

When I back into our driveway I have to turn the rig to almost a 90° angle to go around a pole and a bush. When I look at the tires they are really flexing at that point. It looks bad at the time but once I get straightened out it looks normal.

Thanks to all of you who responded to my inquiry! It is scary to see those things twist so much. Actually, we had to take our Monty in for some routine maintenance and warranty work after this last camping trip and asked the service man about it. He said the same thing and that the axles do some flexing as well. He also said we should replace our original Mission tires with better tires - Goodyear or Michelin. One of our tires has an indentation/dimple in the sidewall. Don't think that's good. Our original dealer told us that's where the steel belts came together????
Again, thanks to everyone for your responses. This is a great site!

Paul,
Re. sidewall indentations, I had the Goodyear/Tireco rep. at the Rally look at my sidewalls on my new Goodyears. He said same thing your dealer did re. belts, and normal. Told me "No worries." Hope that helps. Sometimes we get worried about stuff that is OK. Best wishes,

From what I've been told in the past is that dipples are not a problem, bumps or bulges are bad
