If you travel 500 miles to get to the dealer with the best price then that's 250 dollars of expense, not including wear and tear, DEF etc. Not to mention your time, meals along the way and possibly motel stops. Now if the winning dealer is fairly close it wont be that big a deal. I've heard people going 1500 miles to get a deal... that would have cost roughly 750 dollars out of pocket just for fuel. Worth it? YMMV as they say.
I agree, but it can be profitable. We once drove 1700 miles roundtrip but it was $11,000. It was worth it. Local dealers wouldn't/couldn't deal lower.

That's really the situation we're in. We are still trying to find the right service location. Thought we had it, but seems like that is still somewhat iffy after asking about a couple of tire/axle questions. But, maybe we just need a different tire and axle shop and let the other guy solve the other problems.

I'm not opposed to some DIY stuff. And deeply opposed to our rig sitting in a service yard for eight weeks for a simple issue. Schedule it and meet the schedule and you earn my business next time. Don't and I won't be back.

Rarely need to leave mine overnight. An appointment no more than 2 weeks out unless I need it then squeezed in. I take in to be worked on, if parts need to be ordered I bring it home and am called when parts arrive. I wait until work is complete. Not sure why any dealer wants rigs hanging around taking up space.

YMMV of course, but as full-timers we have NEVER been close to our selling dealer when the rig needed service. I say buy from the dealer that will do you a good deal with integrity, and then call the mobile RV repair dude for service.

I sort of got things backwards I guess, We bought our Windjammer out of state in Alabama and got a great deal from a great company in Cullman.

We live east of Atlanta so when we did have a warranty issue they referred us to a Rockwood Dealer in Buford GA (not CW) that took care of us like we bought it from them even though we didnt. They have turned out to be a fantastic family owned business that I cant say enough nice things about.

My oldest son bought a bunkhouse 5th wheel from them about a year ago, and we just bought our new Montana there. Unless something changes real big we will use them from now on. I think in reality it all boils down to the people and ethics of the folks running the place. Good people are good to deal with..

I'd make such a trip for that kind of savings too... like I said, "Worth it?" It would be for such a deal. As others have said, dealer service is also an important consideration and how your intend to use it would be another. If you are a DIYer repair-wise.... it certainly is worth entertaining a long drive to get the deal.
