Hot Water Heater Bypass

We can't seem to locate the hot water heater bypass in our 2955RL. Can anyone advise as to where to look? It's time to winterize. Thanks in advance for any assistance provided.

It a valve on the lower hose on the back of the w/h. I am not familiar with Your floorplan as to where the h/w heater is located. It's in a cabinet or maybe behind the furnace return grill. Look inside an the corresponding area from where the outside cover is (I know this sounds dumb but it's a way to know where to start).

I don't know where it's at on the 2955 either. Outside, you should see the door for the water heater access. That won't get you to the bypass but will tell you where the water heater is located. In that same location inside the rig you should find either a door or an access panel. On the 2880RL we used to have there was a louvered grate in the kitchen peninsula. It had screws that had to be removed to get to the back of the water heater.

The single valve bypass handle should be parallel to the direction of water flow. You want it pointing along the line that goes between the incoming and outgoing water lines.

Hope that helps.

Their is a hinged panel that looks like a drawer on your kitchen cabinets. Lifted this panel and you can reach this valve Steve described. It is not easy to see will need a flash lite.Hope this helps

Hi Dane,

I have a 2955 and the valve is located under the kitchen counter, just left of the sink if your looking at it. Below the last drawer there is a wood panel about 8 inches high and as long as the drawer. It has velcro on the back of it just push it inward and it will come loose. Don't push in the middle though it's very thin and fragile. Push at both ends. After it comes loose you can jiggle it around and you will be able to remove it from the cabinet.
You will need a flash light but the bypass valve will be right in front of you, your water pump is just on the right side of the water heater, if tyou open the side cabinet you will have a good view of both. Trace the lines comming from the pump and you will know for sure you are shutting off the right valve.
This is also a good time to vacumn out underneath there, you will be supprised the dust and stuff that collects down there. We always set a sticky mouse trap under there for the winter along with a sheet of dryer stuff my wife uses. If your where it is cold enough to have to winterize your system you can be reasured that if you catch a mouse he wont stink. He will freeze too. Just remove him before the warm weather.

Hope this helps,

bill & Rita
