Pure Bred Dogs Only?
I called an RV Park office (name withheld) recently in California for information and to make a reservation. I advised the lady who answered the phone there that I have 1 dog, a Chocolate Lab. She said I couldn't make a reservation until I first drove there so she could see the dog first and that they Only allow Pure Bred dogs and NOT mix breeds. I live in Tennessee and the RV Park is in California! I told her that my dog was a Pure Bred Lab and asked how in the world she could possibly tell just by looking at it? She immediately copped an attitude and said she has been doing this a long time and that she knows how to tell them apart! I almost fell off of the chair laughing...Can you believe that!...I asked her if she was a certified & trained Veterinarian to be able to do this at a glance!! She continued with the attitude and insisted that I need to drive there first with the dog or I would not be allowed to make a reservation with them. After I quit laughing, I told her she could forget making our reservations and I will stay somewhere else.
I have been hosting a campground for the COE for 2 years now and I guess I missed the class on how to tell Pure Bred dogs apart from Mixed Breeds by just looking at them!!

Wonder why she thinks pure bred dogs are better? Guess she would not allow designer dogs,

How could she tell if our PBGV was a pure bread. She has probably never seen one. The world is full of idiots. She is just one.

One of a million examples of why we stay away from California

Over the years I had several pure bread shepards. Two of which would have taken a pure bread bite out of her

She would be looking for the wide mouthed, short muzzled, cross-bred with a Pit Bull kind of mutt. .....or anything she thinks that maybe looks like a Pit Bull, .....'cause she's an expert!
...and if anyone has a Staffordshire Bull Terrier or Doberman Pinscher, good luck finding an RV spot in CA. The closer you get to L.A., the worse it gets.
That's the People's Repulik of Kalifornia for you.
Definitely spend your money at some other RV campground.

Oh! Those are a cross between a Jack Russell Terrier, a Poodle, and an Old English Sheep Dog. You have been taken by a unscrupulous puppy-mill owner on that purchase. Definitely not a purebred!
...I can tell just by looking at it!

Scott, this will be just the first of several "strange" issues you will find when traveling to California. I don't want to offend any members here that live in California, but I found several things in the state to be......let's just say strange and/or different.
But hey, they do have Yosemite and a few other sites that are "must see" places.

Wow, Pure bred only!! I'd sure give that RV park a miss. What sort of image are they hoping to project, I wonder? Must be a mistaken idea of what constitutes 'good people.' ?? If they're a Good Sam park I'd put a review about the park on the website. (if that's possible?)

It feels strange to be defending California - it is a crazy State which is taxing us to death- but we have travelled all over Calif and the U.S. (Incl Alaska), and Canada, and I don't see any difference in the things we experience at the various RV Parks here and in the rest of the country. There is a park in Salem, Or. where the owner must come out and meet your dog(s) before you can proceed. But, we travel with two dogs and I certainly wouldn't let that be the reason to avoid Calif. I would say the the large majority of parks in Calif. are dog friendly - which is a miracle given the number of inconsiderate campers I see who don't clean up after their dogs or let their dogs run around off-leash.

That's probably one of those places that allow only class A's too!
Maybe you should identify the place so we won't be forcing any of our hard earned money on them.

Just to make a point here...I am NOT bashing California at all! We now have reservations at another RV Park in the area that was extremely accommodating and wonderful to deal with.
Just thought it was so comical listening to this Idiot try to tell me that she CAN IDENTIFY a Pure Bred Dog by just looking at them. And I was suppose to drive all the way to California from Tennessee first for the viewing before making a reservation! Sorry, that still cracks me up just saying it again!
The scary part is these types of people roam amongst us and breed!!

Not all parks in California are that strict. We have several parks that allow anyone from Tenn to stay, regardless of their dog breed!

I guess this one-size-fits-all society we're living in currently hasn't trickled down to our canine friends yet.
