Good oil change or not?

South of Lincoln City, OR, on Rt. 101 Friday I got 2 warnings on my dash #1 "Oil change due" and #2 "change fuel filter". I have never had these warnings because I always change the oil and fuel filters way ahead of time. Been doing too much towing I guess. Couldn't find a Ford dealer within 150 miles that could service my truck before next Wednesday. We are staying at Premier RV, which as some of you know is a really good CG. Told Terry (manager I think) of my problems and he made a call to a non-Ford service center in town. They were booked for Saturday morning but said they would work me in. Took my truck info and sure enough I showed up at 10am Saturday and they changed the oil/filter and fuel filter. I was thrilled to get it done. An extremely clean and professional shop right on Rt. 101. Bill was $495.00. I have never paid for an oil change on my F350 since I have a Ford maintenance plan. For those of you that don't do this type of maintenance yourself, was this an okay price for an oil change and fuel filter change? I am not complaining because I had to get it done, just curious.

I just had both an oil change and the fuel filter done in my 2012 Ram 3500 last week, cost was $138.87. I know my old 2010 F350 had 2 fuel filters which would have added an addition cost of what the Ram cost me, but $495 seems extremely steep. Good thing is they got you done and back on your way.

High. My last change on my 2012 F 350 6.7 was $252 for oil and filter change, fuel filter change, and air filter change by the local Ford dealer.

Thanks, I think you are correct that it was pretty high. I dug through my glove box and found a work order from one of my local Ford dealers for an oil change. Even though it was done under my maintenance plan they still listed the price, which was $167.00 for a regular oil change. Oh well, like I said I was thrilled to get it done by a professional. Even though it probably would have not hurt the engine I would have been sick if I would have had to put another 300 miles towing on it before the service.

That was an oil change you can be proud of. Better frame the bill.

.....and a mint on the seat!

Holy cow I'm glad I can still do my own maintenance. Three gallons of Royal Purple and an AC filter sets me back about $77.00. Fuel filters are a bit steep though.

Out of that $252, about $125 was the oil change. My dealer has a program where you get the 5th oil change free. And the count includes my truck and the DW's Expedition. I save the free change for my truck.

Way too much $$. And reference the warnings, with that Ford, you go into the computer, scroll to maintenance and under multiple maintenance functions such as oil change, coolant check, etc, you clear them after the work is done. Otherwise, they will keep coming up.

Have the Duramax and it cost me about $170 for the last one I had done. I only had the oil filter and oil changed and not the fuel filter but that is normally only about $35 or less. IF I catch a coupon from the dealer for the regular oil change for a car, I can normally convince them into taking that off the TV's work.
Joe, I think you got hit a little high in the wallet BUT if you had synthetic oil put in it may have made some of the difference.

Sounds like they knew your situation and were more than happy to "squeeze" you in.

Those messages are more informative than mandatory and triggered by mileage. Another 300 -500 miles before changing oil or the fuel filters would not be a problem.

As you have heard, you were taken advantage of unless you got synthetic oil (and even then it was pricy). 1retired06 has good info on resetting those messages after maintenance is done.

I just had the oil changed and fuel filter with the wipers changed. The cost was $375 but I got the 4 oil change package from dodge which cost $210 of that cost.. So I think your cost was a little steep. I have noticed dodge resets my oil change reminder for 3000 miles which I think is a little to soon for these new oils that they use. I run about 5000 mile on oil and fuel filter. I think the dodge manual says to run 7500 miles on the oil.

Yes it does say 7500 miles for a oil change, I also do at 5000 miles. The fuel filter at 15,000 miles. Seems to keep my 3500 Dodge going strong.

You probably got the warnings because you did not reset the maintenance schedule monitor as was mentioned. I change oil at 5k, fuel filters at 15k, easy math. Noticed you stated fuel filter, did they change both?

The paperwork just said cj-4 for the oil used, so I am not sure if it was synthetic or not. I know the ford fuel filters are a little pricey, but based on everything being quoted here I think I paid about $200 more than I should/could have for this service. I always reset the message center notifications after getting the truck serviced because sometimes the techs forget to or don't know how to. I was going to have oil changed at 7,500 miles along with fuel filter when I got to the Seattle area (had another posting for suggestions on Ford dealers in that area). That is what kind of surprised me when both of the warnings came on the message center. It had been about 7,100 since last oil change and a little over 14,000 since last fuel filter change. So does the truck's computer "know" that the last 2,500 miles have been hard towing and therefore lessened the change interval?
