Amps for A/C

How many amps does it take to run the 15000 BTU in the unit?

It takes about 14.5 amps at 120 volts. But thats after its up and running, its the compressor starting up that draws the higher amps. That's why you need a generator ( or 30 amp ck.) that will give you a lot of amps. A 4000 watt generator will handle around 36 amps startup and run at full load of around 23 to 26 amps. 2-2000 watt gen's in parallel will do just this,I know you'll probaly get a million different reply's but power is always good to look at and have a little extra then not enough.I always say "GOOD POWER AINT CHEAP! CHEAP POWER AINT GOOD!"

We have run our AC when plugged into a 20 amp circuit. Seems to work fine with no problem. Can't run anything else, however.

I did a test on my unit before I bought my onboard generator. I was really surprised as my clamp-on amp meter only read 10.5 amps after the initial surge. I installed a 3600 watt generac propane unit which starts and runs it no problem along with the charger/convertor. It will not run the second AC unit also. I knew that going in but wanted a unit that didn't use a lot of propane and didn't weigh a lot.

Ron, See Mike and Kat's posts about this in another current thread. Following their lead, I looked into the subject and I have ordered the Hard Start Capacitor. I should be able to run the 15kBTU unit on a single Honda 2000i.

Ron it will pull about 12 amps. when looking at things in the rv divide the watts by 125 and that will be as close as you need to the amps. I also run mine at home on a 20 amp breaker with no problem. JMHO
