Hesitation in my 6.0
My 2006 F250 with 6.0 diesel has 80K miles on it. It seems to be real sluggish on take offs. Towing and non towing. If you pull out in traffic you might get run over before you get going. You can floor the petal pulling out and very little happens for about 2 or 3 seconds. Then the power hits and it will nail you to the seat. Does this sound like trouble comming or normal for a 6.0. Has been trouble free until now.

I had an '04 6.0 and now an '07 6.0. Never had that on either.
Ask your question over on the Ford Truck Enthusiast web site. Good place for any question about Ford trucks.

The first place to look is your fuel filter! I have seen this posted numerous times on numerous forums, including this one.

Does the truck shoot a lot of black soot out the tail when this happens? If so, sounds like the turbo is starting to go. Should be covered under the 100K engine warranty. If not a lot of black soot, good change it is not getting enough fuel. Fuel filters (need to check both engine and chassis filter) would be the next possibility. Hopefully not another type of problem... let us know what you find out. Tim

Guess I will start with fuel filter. Ordered a Motorcraft filter set today. My current filters have about 20K miles on them. I was hoping to have one of the "good" 6.0 motors but starting to have doubts. Thanks for all the replies. I'll utdate when I get them installed.

I can't speak for Ford, but GM recommends a fuel filter change at around 15,000 miles (or less). GM filters are very pricy - around $75 at the dealer and $50 or so aftermarket, so I installed a CAT pre-filter at the fuel tank. It's about 3x the size of the stock unit and filters down to 2 microns. Best part is the price - less than $20. With it, I expect to get 40K to 50K out of the stock filter before I have to replace it.

I am in the process of starting the Lemon Law on my 6.4L for the same issue as well as white smoke and sluggish in humid and rainy days. I know there are a few service advisories out about this and I believe I remember seeing one on the 6.0L as well. Check with your Ford shop - ask about condensation building in the CAC creating hesitation and white smoke. This should get your adviser started in Oasis (Ford's internal service website).

A while back my truck did the same, and last week a friends did as well, both 06 Ford 6.0s (250 and 350) and each of us needed a FICM module and it fixed the problem (fuel injector control module). The problem might be that the engine is not getting the necessary fuel which is regulated by the FICM. Good luck and I hope this helps.

I changed the fuel filters out over the weekend. No luck there. Actually made it worse. Ford changed the design of the main filter. Made it a little longer and it seems it really does not fit the housing properly. Now I have a fuel delivery problem. Got a appointment with the Dealer on Wed. Hope they can figure all this stuff out. Got a trip planned to the Smokeys next week. I'll keep you updated on what I find out.

Sorry to hear the filters didn't cure the problem. Your fuel delivery symptom is probably just air in the system. Does Ford have a method of priming the filters to remove the air? GM has a manual push diaphragm on top of the filter housing to do this. Good luck on your fix, and I hope it's a cheap one!

The Ford filter housing has an automatic air bleed - the procedure for purging air after changing the fuel filters is to cycle the key on for 3 seconds, then off for 15 seconds repeating 2 more times.

Just got back form Ford dealer. They said my ICP sensor was bad. They replaced it and it runs great. More power than I'm used to. Best of all Ford paid 100% for the repair under warranty. Went ahead and changed trans fluid and flushed coolant. About to head to Smoky Mountains. Thanks for all the suggestions.

Glad it was a minor fix and that it was under warranty.
