tire pressure sensors
I am going to buy a tire pressure sensor unit and I would love the input of this group on what is the best. I know that there will be a difference of opinion but that is good.

We have the TST monitors and are very happy with them. I like the size of the monitor. Others have Pressure Pro and are happy with it. There are others on the market now also.

Love our TST and the receiver unit fits into the small "pocket" in the lower portion of the dash just above the P-3 brake controller.

Can't tell you which is best but we have had the pressure pro for nearly 4 years with no problems and 3 saves.

TST here. But what wasn't stated is I strongly recommend replacing your rubber valve stems with metal clamp(bolt) down ones. Make sure they are long enough especially on the Monty Rims.

Another vote for TST. I like that it shows the tire temperature also.

We have TPM on our GMC Canyon and the light seems to be on with a flashing message most of the time. It has been reset so many times that I can't count them. The darn thing was on for most of 2009. A dealer even reflashed the computer and it only comes on once on a while now. The tires are always up as I have checked the air so many times I have wore the valve caps out. I cant say that I like the ones on the GM products. I use a thermometer and check all the tires every time we stop and that gives me peace of mind.

Still waiting for my TPMS. Ordered it from American RVer on March 22 and they were doing a changeover to a new system.Had a hard time getting parts but they say I should receive it this Monday. Due to the delay they are going to give an additional 6 months warranty for a total of 2 1/2 years. 4 tire system for $269 + $10 shipping.

A while back someone wanted to know about the heat of the tires when traveling. We have the Pressure Pro System that we like but it doesn't display tire temperature. So I purchased a laser thermometer from Home Depot ($40). Now when we stoop at a rest stop I periodically check the tire temperatures. When the tire pressures are about 92 psi, I have found the temperatures to be at or around 90-93° F. That's with starting out from 80 psi cold.
I'm not saying this is what your temperatures should be, but just giving this information in case someone would like to know from a practical standpoint what they may expect.

I also have been looking into the purchase of a TPM system, it seems that most of the posters have the kind with the monitor mounted to the valve stim, and the use of rubber valve stims usualy get dammaged from the G force generated while spinning down the hwy, making the purchase of steel or brass type recomended, also to prevent this from happining, is there a TPM system that has there sensors mounted inside the tire preventing what I mentioned above. which will also prevent theft or damage later down the road.
It seems that the cost of putting new stims and labor from the local tire shop brings the price up conciderably when you are doing 10 tires.

Some good reputable tire shops will include the metal stems when you buy new ties. At least that has been my experience. Most of the time if you trade at the same tire shop, you can get them to install metal stems during a re-balance and it won't cost you very much.
My sensors are locked on the stems with a lock nut. If they are removed without removing the lock nut, the sensor is ruined.

There are 3 or 4 good TPMS out there and they are probably more alike than different. We went with Pressure Pro primarily because the distributors Mike and Pat McFall are members of another forum to which we belong and Pat provides customer service and support that is far better than most that you find now a days, just my opinion, Best wishes, Jay and Kathy

I have the TST on order. In April they were including two year warranty at no charge and matched the $299 price from Camping World. I had one ordered from Camping World when they quoted me $228 to put on metal valve stems - not counting the valve stems. It turns out that I didn't need to get them as the Big Sky already has metal valve stems. If you call TST, they will probably give you the extended wrranty.

Ols1932, I also use a laser temperature gun and I also see 90* to 93*. I did learn to do the sunny side first because after hitting everything on the shady side I found the sunny side was about 10* hotter. It is surprising how fast the black sidewalls heat up in a parking lot in the sun.
